At least the military has begun the process of ending the ban on transgender individuals. So far, Defense Secretary Carter has made it clear that the Defense Department won’t discharge transgender military service members, at least under the current administration. Kicking someone out of the Armed Forces for that reason now requires approval from an assistant secretary of defense.
