They just don't get it in North Carolina do they?
Fired up my computer this evening and this was on my news feed from MSN. After reading it I'm not sure whether I should be scared of this guy or feel sorry for him for just being that ignorant.

McCrory's a ding bat anyway Some of his action as Gov are laughable but that's a topic for another board. 5 1/2 years first with Governor "Bev" Perdue then this one convinced us it was time to move. That state is so backwards in some respects it like you stepped back 100 years.

Great take from the alleged "Moral Majority!" It is always interesting to see how the uninformed try to justify their stances.
Remember Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did only she did it backwards and in high heels!

I don't think he's ignorant, so much as in denial. And he represents a whole demographic of people who are in denial. They really want to go back to a time when LGBT people didn't exist for the majority.

It is obvious as usual with set that if you fact check what they say the make things up. I won't get all political here, even though I want to, but his comment about the LGBT people not wanting a dialogue isn't true, just that I think we are all tire of hearing the same thing from the moral majority, they are not open to dialogue just to quoting those parts of bible that fit their needs.

Giggle! You have obviously never visited North Carolina... It is very rural! Example... last time I visited I did not run before dawn (as is my normal routine) because I was wary of bear attack!Michelle Diane wrote:McCrory's a ding bat anyway Some of his action as Gov are laughable but that's a topic for another board. 5 1/2 years first with Governor "Bev" Perdue then this one convinced us it was time to move. Re: They just don't get it in North Carolina do they?
I lived in North Carolina for 5 almost 6 years.
Actually NC is a wonderful mix of cosmopolitan cities and fantastic rural settings. True we never had to worry about bears in Raleigh but there was a scare about wolves a few miles up the road just outside Brier Creek. Someone had seen what they thought was a large Alsatian that had got loose but Fins and Fur found wolf tracks so we were warned to be on the look out.
My favourite area of NC is over in the west round Asheville, Morganton, Hickory along I-40 we almost bought a house in Morganton but it fell through.
Actually now you mention bears I think there was a sighting north of us up in Durham but usually on the Piedmont and Coastal Plain you're pretty safe....Although watch for Skunks!!!

That's right. They just don't get it. All of my trips to NC have been to the 'research triangle' area, which is quite cosmopolitan and seemed progressive.
However, the news suggests that the majority of the state is really from Mayberry - for the worse, not the better.

Yes... they may just not get it in North Carolina but they really don't need to get it do they? The wonderful thing about these United States of America is that we do not need to stand for others to impose their values on us. If you don't like North Carolina values, don't go there and certainly don't choose to live there!

Re: They just don't get it in North Carolina do they?
In the last month, using my real name, I decided to come out in defense of LGBT on Facebook. I've amassed a quiver full of arrows, documented sources to support "our side", but generally, to no avail. I can point out the logical fallacies in the bigot's arguments, but they ignore my observations. It is a religious issue for the bigots, and it doesn't matter that you can out-quote the bible to them. They persist in thinking that LGBT do not need to pea, or that preventing them from basic bodily functions will cause them to cease to exist.
Even the libertarian folk are divided on this one. The anarchists say they support LGBT but oppose granting civil rights, because a person's right to hate evidently trumps another person's need to pea.
I've had to begin unfriending those that post on an almost daily basis about how much God hates non-cis-gendered child-molesting freaks. That in itself is depressing.
Said another way, I've been gone from this forum for far too long, and I desperately needed a breath of fresh air!
Hugs,
Bernice

Re: They just don't get it in North Carolina do they?
I may not be qualified to speak on the religious issues on this but when has that ever stopped me? After all I have always joked "I'm Catholic, what the hell do I know about the Bible!"
All joking aside whether you are Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, or even part of the far right Fundamentalist Christians the common thread is the belief in Christianity and the teachings of Christ. To the best of my knowledge Jesus never preached against the LGBT community. What he did preach was love of God and your fellow man (or woman). Sure you can hide your head in the sand and say that there was no LGBT community back then followed by a Rush Limbaugh like leap to it is a case of the LGBT community only coming into existence because of the Liberals of the world. I would even venture to guess that he would try to lay the blame of this movement on Bill Clinton or Barack Obama, his favorite punching bags.
This is not an issue of religion or the but rather human rights. The LGBT movement of today is not unlike the civil rights movement of the 60"s. It is a battle for the same basic rights that the majority of the population enjoys. One doesn't ask to be born lesbian or gay or bi-sexual or transgendered anymore than one asks to be born black or white. It is something that is part of your genetic make-up Nothing more nothing less! It is the same as having blue eyes or red hair. It is what you are and for anyone to deny you the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness all Americans are supposed to enjoy makes them at the very best a bigot!
I am so tired of these alleged "saviors of society" hiding behind their lame arguments of Christianity and protecting our children. If they are so damned concerned about welfare of our children why are they not railing for and scavenging every dollar they can find for education, child nutrition, and proper medical care for all children regardless of the parent's financial situation?

It ain't just North Carolina, y'all. Mayberry, Dumfokkistan can be found all over the U.S. On the other hand, some cool folks can even be found in Alabama.

In one of my threads where the claim that children were "at risk" was primary, I dropped this bomb upon them:
School teachers 100 times more likely to molest than clergy
