Engineering Background?
On a BBC Radio 4 program this week that had a trangendered theme - one comment that caught my attention was "most of us seem to be engineers".
Do you have an engineering background? I do. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering so let's start the poll with that.
I do not exclude non graduates here.
Answer truthfully, please.

No, my first degree was psychology, then I went into anthropology.
However, during my military years, I was in engineering on a large ship, where I thoroughly learned the steam cycle and making potable water, a bit about electrical plant operation, and a whole lot about damage control and nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare defense. I also stood underway deck watches, some navigation in the open ocean and entering port, and also several stents in electronics/operation where I was introduced to ELANT and radar navigation. One of our Captains was an old submariner, and believed his officers should be able to be multi-purpose for emergencies. I did find that aspect fun, and was better able to appreciate the other departments on the ship.

From what I know about engineers, I have an engineering mind, and fit right in. I was admitted to an engineering college as an electrical engineer. Since I had good grades, no one stood in my way. But when I saw that my math skills would not be up to it, I switched majors before the first day of classes.
I had a year of being surrounded by engineer-to-bes, though. (And, at the time, no women classmates at all.)
I know now that if I could have been shown a different way to study math, I could possibly have made it work. I was left on my own, and did not discover any of this for another 16 years. By that time, I was not going to go back and try to catch up.
