Why Me

Post by Rader »

Where I live, Northern Illinois, it has been a bitter winter,
Well some Raccoons decided to make my home their home.
While in the attic, they broke lose the flu piping that vents the
furnace out the roof. That let all the gasses to be trapped in the attic.
Now when all throes gasses it the cold plywood, and we had many nights
well bellow zero, they condensates and it rains in the attic.
Well I was having water leaking down everywhere, and this caused
my drywall ceiling to fall in a few places.
Now I usually dress at home every day, not much, panties, skirt, bra with
forms and a nice top.
Well with insurance people coming to inspect, and contractors coming
to bid, pest controllers coming to trap the critters, I had to stay in DAB
for the last 10 days. I am about to screen.
I got dressed today, then I get a phone call, someone else is coming to
look at the damage. EEEEEKKKKK What is a Mother to do?
Why me,

There is no reason. Stuff like that just is. Not that helps a great deal, but that's how I look at it.

In a very blue moon, things just happen in the opposite way. Like for no real reason, I'm on a roll (like a gambler's run of luck). I can remember that happening once - and people wanting a bit of it.

Hi Rader
Consider yourself lucky. With the flue pipe loose in the house you could have easily died of carbon monoxide poisoning. I hope you have a CO detector, if not, you should get one ASAP. I have worked in the HVAC trade for 20 years and find that even with all the stories in the news every year about people getting sick or dying from CO poisoning, people still don't get CO detectors or have their furnaces inspected every year.
I do feel your pain about not being able to dress though. My daughter recently got her license and has been getting home earlier and that has cut down on the time I can dress, and both the kids have been home a lot because of all the days the schools have been closed because of snow. Good luck with all the repairs, and make sure you pick up a CO detector if you don't have one. Material things can be replaced or fixed, but you can't be replaced.

Totally get what you are going through. We are in the midst of a remodel. The contractor has several projects going on. Never know when some workers will show up or not.

When I am alone and have started playing around, I am on pins and needles that someone will show up. It'll be over soon enough. But until it does, nerve wracking.

I guess it's true, the old saying, when it condensates it pours.

Sorry you're having to put up with all those issues, and can't find time to dress to relieve the stress.

If you have trees overhanging the roof, enabling the critters to get up there, you may want to consider having them trimmed back.

Totally agree with Vanessa! Safety first, fashion pleasures second. Those things can sneak up and kill you and/or family without warning.

To Rikki and Vannessa:
My attic is well vented, and I do have CO-2 detectors in the house.
The fact that the pipe was dislodged rite below the chimney, let some of the
fumes get out, but allowed enough to make it rain in the attic space.
It seems that the plywood is starting to rot, so the contractor is talking of
replacing most of the plywood, at a cost of maybe $ 10,000 to $ 15,000.
WOW!!!! Now lets see what the insurance company will do; the agent said I
had their best policy. So Cross your fingers, and yes I have a chance to dress today
Hurray!!!! ..^..

I am glad to hear you have the CO detectors. I would hate to hear about something bad happening to one of our members. Good luck with the insurance company and I hope everything gets taken care of quick, so you can get back to your regular routine.

The Contractor from the Insurance Co. came out and put some plywood
up over where the hole in my dinning room ceiling was. At least it does not
leak there rite now.
He went into the attic again and took pictures of the Raccoon poop, seeing that
there was that present is proof there where in the attic, and caused the damage.
My guess is the more Poop they see, the more they will spend to repair the house.
We found more ceiling in the living room about to fall in also; so I thing the bid will
be higher. Now the question is, can I still live here while they work here.
This will be interesting.
