Photo Gallery: how-to

Post by CJ »

Hi all,

Okay, we have quite a few new people on board. Seems like there's much head-scratching going on regarding the Photo Gallery. Here's the scoop.

You'll find a link to the Photo Gallery at the top of the page. Click on it to access the gallery's Welcome page. Just click on the big graphic to access the Gallery proper.

Okay, now, step-by-step:

1. Read the rules regarding the Photo Gallery, found here: http://crossdressers-haven.com/forums/v ... 65&t=15987" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and be aware this rule is strictly enforced. Be tasteful in your choice of images, this site is NOT rated XXX. Make sure you follow the rules - and especially the posting criteria - before you upload photos; you don't want to find your photos deleted! ** There will be no 'advance warning' or notice provided to any member if or when any of their photos and/or gallery album(s) are deleted pursuant to the rules cited. Everyone here is an adult and it is their responsibility to read and follow all rules. **

2. After successfully loading the Crossdresser's-Forum Photo Gallery page, you'll notice a row of links in the upper part of the page. You'll be using these to get around. First one to click on is Admin mode. If you're already in the "administration" mode, the link will read User mode instead (clicking on this will take you out of the slightly more complex "administration" mode and back into the more basic "user" mode).

3. Click on the My gallery link. If you've never been here, there will be no albums and, hence, no images to display. Create an album now. Click on Create/Order Albums then on New beneath the album list window; type in a name for your new album. Click on Apply modifications. Return to the My gallery page. You should now have a new (empty) album listed on your gallery (with a generic icon representing that album).

4. Next to your album's icon, you'll notice three buttons. Click on the Properties button. On your album's Properties page, scroll to the bottom and select the options of your choice. By default, the album is viewable by the public at large. Change this so that only members of the Registered Members Group (that's us) can view your photos. If you don't do this, it will be done for you, at some point, in order to have your privacy protected. On the Properties page, you can change the name of your album or edit its description (optional) and choose which photo thumbnail you want to have as an album cover (but only once you've actually put photos in your album). You can also allow (or forbid) other users to post comments and ratings on your photos. When you're all done, click on Update Album. Do not check the 'password protect this album' box.

5. You're now ready to upload photos. Click on Upload file, in the row of links, near the top of the page. You can choose up to two files at once (see the rules link, above, for more information) from your computer's hard drive. Just click on Browse and go find the file on your computer. Once you've chosen the files, click on Continue, at the bottom of the page. You'll soon get a confirmation that "x number of uploads were successful." Click on Continue.

6. This page is the Upload Manager page. Every file you uploaded in the previous step will show up here, in turn, so that you can place it where you want and otherwise modify it. Choose which album the file is to go to (assuming you created more than one album in Step 3). Assign the file a name and a description, if you wish, and then click on Continue to have the next uploaded file show up. When you're done, a confirmation stating that "you have successfully placed all the files" will show up.

7. When you're done with all your uploading (when all files have been "successfully placed"), click on Continue. This will take you back to the gallery's index page. The top section shows random photos from various users, the bottom section shows last additions to the gallery (which, normally, should be the photos you've just uploaded). Click on My gallery, in the row of links at the top, to return to your own gallery. You should now see your own album(s), next to which will be an indication of how many files it contains and when it was last updated. Just click on your album to view your photos.

That's basically it. Easy as pie. Here's a tip: as you won't be allowed to have more than 1Mb of space on the server for your photos, I recommend that you crop and resize them beforehand so that they're no larger than 50Kb each (or thereabouts). This will give you the opportunity to upload more than just two or three shots for your entire album; as a reminder, you can only upload a maximum of 2 photos per 7 days (once you've met the posting criteria), and all members are limited to a maximum of 25 photos (regardless of how many 'albums' you've created).

Happy viewing, all (and, remember, keep it tasteful, eh?)!

Love,
CJ

As a reminder, once you have uploaded your photo(s), do not start a new topic but do add a post to the following topic:
