Project: A geographical snapshot of the forum

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Richmond VA, and originally from the Netherlands, and I do see a red dot on the map somewhere in the area of Netherlands, Belgium or Germany. Now that makes me curious. :)

Thanks CJ for doing this map. It is nice to know how spread out we are. Wondering if it is up to date ?

Hi, everyone -

Unfortunately, CJ has not updated the map since September 2008, and she has not been an active member here for several years.

I have asked her several times for the log-in info for the map so that I - or someone else from the Haven - could continue with the project, but CJ has failed to respond to those requests. :sigh:

This topic had been kept open in the hopes that eventually CJ would respond, but now that sounds like it will never happen. :(

So . . . if anyone is willing to take on this project that would be fantastic. I do not want to use any map that specifically identifies where our members live, nor any map that cannot be readily accessed by all our members.

This might help... I just checked out google sheets with the map add on. You can set the privacy of the spreadsheet to only those that have the URL. This would mean you can have a link on this site and lock it out to only logged in members. That would control who can get to the sheet. Then the sheet can be further controlled to have it read only to anyone but the person (maybe persons) that you give more permissions to.

Then with the add on for the map, you generate a unique map with it's own URL. Now here's the tricky part. If no one has the URL, no one ever sees the map. I didn't save the URL of the map to see if it is out there all the time or if it is generated each time you go to it. If it's generated each time you go to it, then presumably only those with permissions to the sheet should be able to generate the map or you would get a message saying the map can't be generated. Otherwise, if the URL is "dead" as in no longer available after your close the window, then you just tell folks how to generate the map from the spreadsheet.

Any takers to do further research? We all have to be happy with the protections/sharing features of Google Sheets and Map.

Davita -

I was already contacted by Sarah Beth with a Google Map that she created . . . I'm thinking that maybe the two of you could work together on this project? :-k

It would really be cool if we could somehow click on a state and get the list of members

I would agree with that, Janet, as long as no other information is provided.

I agree.. only the locations.. the states or countries that are registered should
be in the data base.
