THE OFFICIAL: CD / TG Movie & Theatre Discussion

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Comedy? I guess that's where I got confused at the Golden Globe awards where they won in that category. Due to the subject that I take quite seriously, I related to the series more as a drama. Either way, I'm glad that the subject was discussed and awarded recognition.

Caveat: I have not watched the show and speak solely from the POV of any draw to it.

Based on what I'm reading here, I'd be inclined not to watch the show. I look at this from two angles. First, if gender-stuff was not a part of the premise of the show, I'd definitely give it a pass.

Generally when I watch a show it is because I am attracted to the characters or finding them intriguing in some way.

Having read the character descriptions, Sarah, for example, is not someone I would want to know. I dunno, given my background, and my abhorrence of the 'typical', and the fact that I tend to reject the materialistic attitude these characters espouse, I just don't think I'd be interested.

I am also struggling with this ... Jill Soloway the producer has said: "The socialist in me welcomes the kind of democratization these platforms are bringing to our creative community and the viewing public. I feel like I’m part of this creative revolution, like an Arab Spring—but let’s call it an Auteur T.V. Spring—sweeping across the land." as well as "Transparent stands for gender freedom for all, and within that freedom we can find grays and muddled purples and pinks, chakras that bridge the heart and mind, sexiness that depends on a masochistic love or a sweeping soul dominance. In particular, Transparent wants to invent worlds that bridge the binary: Genderqueer, Boygirl, Girlboy, Macho Princess, and Officer Sweet Slutty Bear Captain are just a few incredibly confusing, gender-f___ng concepts that come to mind". Somehow this all comes off as word-salad to me and totally pretentious. Curiously enough, Ms Soloway says "The socialist in me..", and as a socialist myself, I feel like she is using the socialist tag as something trendy to hang her hat on.

Now we add the gender aspect. I agree with the sentiment that overall familial dysfunction will only taint us on the gender spectrum as being equally screwed up.

One other thing I'll mention is the fact that generally speaking I don't get comedy as it exists today. Something in my brain doesn't make it work. Seinfeld, Friends, etc -- I can sit through then and not crack a smile. (I will mention that my wife and I do not watch network TV. We are classic movie fans -- film noir, drama, classic comedy etc)

What I long for is movie and TV that deals with us as real normal people. Just Like a Woman did. Trans-america did. La Vie en Rose did. Other stuff, IMHO, not so much.

Sorry if I'm being a wet blanket

Hugs

Switch, a 1991 Blake Edwards film is currently being aired on HBO (at least in my area). It will never be mistaken as a cimimatic triumph. The plot is very much like the stories you read on one of the tg fiction sites.

However, Ellen Barkin playing the role of a chauvinist pig suddenly in a female body is priceless. She nails it.

Boy Meets Girl transgender film

Post by Marissa Mae »

Hi sisters,

I can't (can I?) be the first here to happen across the film "Boy Meets Girl" and its excellent lead actress, Michelle Hendley? I searched our site but found no references either to her or to the film.

So here goes. I think it's high time others of us got to see someone doing this quality of work. She's a credit to us all!

"Boy Meets Girl" is a feature film with a story that instantly grabs you (or, anyway, me). It is a sensitive, credible, low-key look at the life and hopes of a young M-F transsexual (pre-op) and her male best friend (if I qualified that, it would be a spoiler!), in Kentucky, present day.

Michelle has to be one of the most beautiful transgnder young transgender women I have ever seen. She is a hesitant but credible actress and the plot is a good one. The film gets into some major questions but succeeds every time and comes off nicely done and fresh as a daisy. I found myself rooting SO hard for her success and happiness!

If you take a quick look at Michelle Hendley you will see what I'm talking about. Google images has lots of her. Her website is also a knockout:

This is clearly a young transwoman who is going places. Looking at her I get the feeling I'm seeing the appealing, confident, working transgender world of the future.

Enjoy all!

Love, Marissa Mae

Just saw "The Danish Girl", it's a real keeper. Bring tissues. Beautifully shot, sensitively told story.

Hi, Rikki -

Virginia and I saw The Danish Girl a couple of weeks ago and, while it was good, it is not something that I would normally watch nor pay to see. I personally did not think it rated tissues, but the movie was done well.

That being said, for any GG/SO (or family member) who is struggling to accept and understand, this movie will just reinforce all her fears, and no amount of conversation / convincing from her CD/TG partner will work. Even as an accepting SO and numerous conversations, this fear will always remain in the back of my mind as it is one that no GG/SO can ever escape. [-(

This movie is definitely not for everyone. [-(

Yay Mya Taylor! See http://www.people.com/people/package/ar ... 19,00.html about Transgender Tangerine star Mya Taylor on historic acting win at [the 2016] Indie Spirit Awards.

Hey, not having any hips or butt didn't stop this Mya from being out there! She did good! BTW, it's a good movie.

I love pop singer Pink, and here she does a prefect tribute to the 50's housewife character with a surprise for all of us:
