"King of the Hill"

Post by DonnaT »

Anyone catch the show last night?
Feeling unfeminine after a clothing exchange party with the neighborhood girls, Hank offers Peggy a new pair of shoes. After finding that her usual place in Lubbock is out of business, she stumbles upon 'Clairissa's Closet', and a new best friend, Carolyn. They become the best of friends, until Peggy finds out that Carolyn is a he, and Carolyn finds that Peggy is a she.
I thought it was very well done.

Caution, Spoiler (show recap) Below

Peggy, Minh, Nancy, and Luanne are sipping Cosmopolitans, having a clothing exchange party. A gathering that allows the women to trade out their clothes for someone elses. Nancy begins, with a sassy pair of maroon cowboy boots. Peggy jumps at them, and tries to stuff her foot in one. After a struggle, she passes them on to Luanne, who slips them right on, looking incredible. Next, she holds up a pair of her gauchos, to no takers. Luanne informs her that they are just not cool.
After the exchange, Peggy is discussing what happened with Hank, asking him if she thinks of her as feminine. He assures her that she is a wife and a mother, those things are feminine. Hank treats her to a pair of new shoes to make her feel better. She heads off to phone her specialty shoe store in Lubbock.
Bobby has a new book. DR. Prankenstein's Joke Book. The Dr. holds a degree in "HEE" and a minor in "HA". He is anxious to start trying out the pranks inside. He and Joseph are talking to Dale about the gun club, when Bobby offers him a 'twenty-five cent massage' Dale accepts. Bobby has colored the sides of the quarter with a black marker, and hands the coin over to Dale. Bobby instructs him to roll it gently all over his face, he does so. Dale leaves for the gun club, covered in black lines.
Peggy calls 'Lubbock's Very Big Shoes', and is horrified to find t hat they are no longer in business. They are a dog-place now.
Luanne shows Peggy a bracelet, explaining that some women wear them on their wrist. Peggy curtly tells her that she knows what a bracelet is, and continues her web search for 'women's large-sized shoes Texas'. One result found, 'Clarissa's Closet', and she heads on over. She enters the store with her head down, and asks the clerk if she has a pump, in a size sixteen, embarrassed. The clerk happily responds 'which brand?', and shows her the floor display. Peggy discovers a metropolis of shoes. Wedges, sandals, boots...that are too big!
At the gun club, phase one of the coup is under way. They are picking a new leader, Dale is up for the position. When he walks in with the ink all over his face, the members assume it is war paint, and all decide to appoint Dale as their new leader. Bobby and Joseph don't get it, no one is laughing at their prank.
Back at the shoe store, Peggy meets a new friend, Carolyn. They spent the afternoon shopping, and picked out some new clothes, Peggy is so happy to have found someone with so much in common with her. The next day at lunch, they are eating chicken curry sandwiches, and Carolyn wonders how Peggy ate her entire sandwich without smearing her lipstick. She explains the technique, and Carolyn is most appreciative. She performs a song and dance act on the weekends, and needs to be able to snack between takes. They continue to trade girl secrets and opinions all day.
After Peggy drops Carolyn off at her apartment, she walks in, greets her mother, and takes of his wig. Carolyn is a drag queen, who thinks that Peggy is as well. Meanwhile, Peggy clears her social calender with the neighborhood ladies, to make time for Carolyn.
They shop at the mall the following day, and Carolyn asks Peggy to be a part of her show. Peggy agrees, and they head back to the Hill house to practice. As they are dancing to 'I'm Every Woman', Hank wanders in. Peggy introduces a puzzled Carolyn to Hank and Bobby. She wonders if they had adopted, and Peggy assures her that Bobby is theirs, and shows him the stretch marks to prove it. As Carolyn looks around the Hill living room, she sees their wedding photos, pictures of Peggy pregnant, and puts it all together...Peggy is a woman.
In the alley, Bobby and Joseph are still trying to pull off the perfect prank. Today's victim being Bill. They tied a string to a dollar bill, and had Bill chasing it down the street. As he is trotting after it, a car swerves around him, and hits a garbage can. Bill runs up to see if the driver is hurt, and sees a drunken woman behind the wheel. He compliments her dialated eyes, and hops in the car behind the wheel, they zip off. This really irritates Bobby. Instead of humiliating him, he met a woman.
Carolyn, who is out of drag, and talking to his mother as 'Jamie', explains the situation with Peggy being a woman to his mother. His overly-supportive mother advises him to overlook it. Jamie needs to tell Peggy that Carolyn is a he, and that she can't perform with him.
Peggy is dressed to kill, big hair, red dress, and purple scarf. On her way to remedy a 'sequin emergency', then on to the big show. Before she leaves, she runs into Nancy and Minh, and they compliment her look. Peggy explains that she is performing with her new friend Carolyn, and invites them to watch.
After Peggy leaves, Hank takes his place in the alley. Jamie drives up, and introduces himself to everyone. Hank has no clue that he is actually Carolyn, and explains the 'sequin emergency', as they have a beer together. Jamie leaves to find Peggy at the theater.
Carolyn finds Peggy, and explains the whole situation. Peggy is devastated to learn that she was mistaken for a drag queen, and leaves in tears. As she is running out, she runs into Nancy, Minh, and Luanne.
Back at home, Peggy sits on the couch, defeated. The ladies are outside at the sliding glass door, tring to cheer her up, to no avail. She closes the curtains, and tells Hank to ignore the ringing telephone. Hank answers it and lies for Peggy, against his better judgement. She then explains what happened to a shocked Hank. He is uncomfortable with her admission that she was mortified to find out that the only woman she had ever identified with, was indeed a man. Hank calls Jamie, as Peggy flees the room in tears.
Hank and Jamie meet for a juice the following day. Hank asks him to patch things up with Carolyn and Peggy. Jamie says that Carolyn will take care of it.
Connie is in the cafeteria at school, and is a victim of a prank played by Bobby and Joseph. The lid on the salt shaker is left loose, and all the salt pours onto her food. At that moment, the popular girls walk up, and offer to share their pizza. Bobby is again at a loss. Joseph thinks that the prank book is actually a magic book, because every time that they attempt a prank, something great happens to the intended target instead. Joseph begs to be pranked. Bobby obliges, and the theory was dis-proved.
Carolyn shows up at the Hill house and drags Peggy and her bag of clothes out. They arrive at the theater, and head backstage. Carolyn introduces her to all of the drag queens, and dumps Peggy's trash bag of clothes onto the floor. Everyone snatzhes them right up. They love Peggy and her style, drag queens model themselves after strong, substantial, fearless women, like Peggy. Peggy starts to smile again, and joins in on the clothing exchange.

I watch the show all of the time. Bobby, the son, often makes comments about doing girl things or wearing woman's clothes.Much to his father's dismay.
