I can remember wanting to wear girls' clothes as long ago as when I was about 5 years old. I would secretly pull the neck of a sweater around my waist as a makeshift skirt and imagine that my name was Carol. I was about that age, or possibly even younger, when my mother caught me trying on my sister's swimsuit.
"If you wanted to be a girl," she said, "why didn't you?" If only I'd been offered the choice...

I used to think it wasn't fair girls could wear skirts and boys couldn't. Well they couldn't publicly without being laughed it.
