TG and IQ
I've noticed many references to the above average intelligence of TGs. Has anyone ever surveyed IQs anywhere or even on this forum. Not that we would think ourselves as elistist or anything - just above average smart! We have a yearly IQ test on national TV. It's quite fascinating because they have live groups in the studio such as students, lawyers, blondes!... It turns out that there is IQ variance across not only professional groups but social and physical ones as well. If anyone is interested I'll start the ball rolling - my IQ is around 127.

I don't typically tell people my IQ as they are intimidated by it. Since I had nothing to do with what I was given, but only what I do with the gift, I don't put too much stock in it. Also, IQ only measures a select set of qualities and doesn't give the whole picture, by any means. It is especially lacking in the area of emotional capability, development, maturity or ability to mature in that area. I also suspect that those with lower IQs might hesitate to answer and might feel inferior, which they are not. Period. We are all God's children and are all equal. So, I'm not sure how valid this poll will be. But, with that said, mine is <deleted>. Further reflection below.

Hi all,
IQ tests encompass too many cultural variables to be considered reliable indicators of a person's intellectual aptitudes. It's like ascribing a p.s.i. rating to a car tire. Well, which type of tire? On which car? On what kind of road? In what sort of weather conditions?
As far as I'm aware, I don't think there have ever been studies conducted that sought to correlate (trans)gender identity and intellectual quotient. Perhaps the alleged "smart crossdresser" syndrome stems from the fact that, because of who (and what) we are, we've always been highly attuned and sensitive to the culture in which we're grounded and that we've had to become students of human behaviour and of the human mind much more precociously than might otherwise have been the case. It's a theory, anyway. Even so, this would affect our "cultural quotient" more than it would our IQ.
If ever an IQ/GID study were to be undertaken, it certainly would have to also take into account level of education, ethnic background, socio-economic stratum, and lived experience. For instance, it's highly likely that few members of this forum are living in abject poverty for they own or have access not only to a computer but to an internet connection as well. Poverty often goes hand in hand with limited opportunities for higher education (one of the main pillars of a high IQ). Thus, if we were going to measure the IQ's of members of this forum, our results would be skewed because we're a "captive sample" of sorts and not necessarily representative of crossdressers at large.
We do well to keep this in mind.
Love,
CJ

Sorry ladies. I must pull down the average. How do you find out your IQ? My best friend Gary who died last year always told me "If they had a short bus when we went to school you would of definately been on it." I love compliments! My combined SAT scores looked like bowling score. (Duck Pin!)Hugs

Sometimes I wonder about IQ test. Mine isn't that great in some areas but very high in others. I never could spell and in high school had to make up English. Now math was not problem and never open a book in chem and made stright A's. I'm pretty good at figureing out how things work but to this day can not do a crosswork puzzle
don't figure.

I won't tell my IQ, even if I felt that it had any comparative substance; I will say it is high. I have a masters degree and was commissioned an Officer and a Gentleman as a Naval Aviator.
I will also say this - I think that those of us who are truly blessed with this "gift", that of being able to feel, experience, share the feminine aspects that have evolved in us and to express them to others in ways that return positive feed back, does put us above the average - pardon my expression - "hard leg"! I truly feel that we may well be the next phase in human evolution. Think about it, the ability to manifest both male and female "characteristics" in a positive manner! How much better would this world be if ...................... well, maybe I am a dreamer. I can only speak for myself, but the results I have experienced, both internally and externally by expressing my feminine aspects in my everyday life, well, I see the results and they are positive and speak for themselves.
Yes, we are smarter than the average bear!!!
Love you all,
Virginia

On further reflection, I deleted my IQ score. The reason is that IQ measures only a subset of our mental abilities, and, as CJ pointed out, has an implicit cultural bias that reduces its objective value. IQ focuses mostly on the linguistic, spatial, mathematical, logical and general reasoning axes. My gut says that there is a stronger correlation between my CDing and areas not measured, such as empathy and creativity.
Re: spelling, I've known brilliant people who didn't care if they spelled things correctly or not--that might be more related to obsessiveness than intelligence.

Hi all,
Grace,
There's absolutely no need for anyone to delete their IQ from the thread. Even in the age of "the deliberate dumbing down of America" (Iserbyt) and of "the closing of the American mind" (Bloom), a high IQ is still something to be proud of--for what it's worth. And that's the thing; we have to take it for what it's worth.
The subject's come up before on this forum. If you're interested, you can follow this link: IQ??

How do find out your IQ? Maybe I'd be better off not knowing. It probably would be something around adding up the scores from a hockey game. Hugs.

PS. Carol Ann. Washed out! You better be talking about my makeup Hon! I have to work Sunday. I do work for an ambulance company and they need 8000, 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 open end envelopes printed 1/1 in maroon ink delivered early Monday morning. What a fun Sunday it will be. If I ever meet a young kid and they say they want to be a printer I say"Here son. Take this $150.00 bucks and go to a Psychiatrist and have your freaking head examined!"

Thanks for the reference to the previous thread CJ - interesting.
Thank you too Grace and others for the reminders that we have attributes more imporatnt than IQ. I agree that we have a "gift", not only for us to appreciate and enjoy but also to help make a contribution toward changing society (sounds lofty but I mean it in quite practical ways)

My IQ fluctuates. The highest being about 175 and the lowest being 115. I see similar results with others all the time. This is even when retaking the SAME TEST... So I guess you could say it is indeed a very flawed test. The only way to tell a person's intelligence is by spending a day in their mind, not based on grades or how well they can organize and recognize patterns. My .02.

I remember being told as a child that I was truly gifted. Then they encouraged me to repeat a grade. So much for IQ. Indeed, what it measures is not always very repeatable. The SAT scores are more repeatable. Mine were 770/640.
I once did freelance work for a looney who thought she could sell a program to increase people's IQ.
And too, if I am so smart, why am I not rich? Nor easy to get along with?
CJ's points about our sample here being not very random are indisputable. Even so, I can't help thinking that as a group we differ from the at-large population in some other measurable ways, aside from feminine proclivities.
Perhaps we should all take the D-I-S-C personality tests, and see how many of us rate "very high C"?
Jeannie, try this link: www.intelligencetest.com, or search Google on "free IQ test", but remember these tests are not even as reliable as one administered in person by someone trained to control the variables. Some sites, (including perhaps this one) are just come-ons to sell you something.
Hugs,
Bernice

I took one long ago (ninth grade or so) and they said i'm at the 95.7th percentile (Had to look it up, proof that it doesn't measure memory).
Frankly, I don't care much about IQ tests, but they did help me get a neat scolarship.
Another thing: Most male/female tests actually depend on you being stupid, and often downright dumb, in spacial perception. That being a strongpoint for me, I was denied hormones. It's amazing how standardised tests are bogus.
