Hi Deirdre--
Glad you could make it into the neighborhood. Since 1979? That's a long stretch, even if you weren't fulltime. Welcome to the forum.

Deirdre is an unusual name, and I like it because the first book I read on transgender was Deirdre McClosky's Crossing.

All I know about Detroit I learned through reading Elmore Leonard novels, Split Images being my favorite. Is the Ren Center still operating?
Police headquarters still at "1300?"

Hi Deirdre, -wel- to the forum.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Yes the Ren Center is still there but it is now the General Motors World Headquarters, sort of ironic as it was Henry Ford II that put together all the money to build and yes the Detroit Police HQ is still at 1300 Beaubien.

Actually I took the name from Deidre Hall, the soap opera actress. In my youth someone told me I looked like her so I figured why not!

Hi, Deidre, and welcome to the Forum from a fellow native-Michiganian! I'm a Motor City-born gal myself and raised in Warren, the third largest city in the state. Family is still in the area, but I got out of there and haven't looked back!

Thanx for the warm welcome all.

I was born and raised in Detroit Hun, still live in Northville. I have many times thought of leaving and may some day but right now I have other issues to be resolved here.

Hi Diedre,

Sorry I am so late to welcome you but have been very busy going to and from the hospital, no not me the misses.

You make a statement I have said a dozen time I only wish I had stayed with it when my mother let me dress.

Now retire and the wife gives me a free rain dress all I want BUT no going public :(

So anyway -wel-

Northville, eh? I used to do a lot of shopping at the wonderful malls in Novi, when I lived in the Waterford area and worked in Farmington Hills and Southfield. I miss the variety of stores that the Metro-Detroit area has to offer (Lakeside, Somerset, Oakland, Twelve Oaks, and Fairlane Malls, to name a few), but I certainly don't miss the traffic, or the weather, especially in winter! We look forward to your participation!
