Looks like you have to be a subscriber to be able to read the second link, oh well....

Looking at the other candidates I would be surprised if the ultimate selection is anything other than isis.

The FT site can be a bit twitchy, even for subscribers. More than once they've told me I need a subscription when I already have one. In general, I think you get a certain number of articles free, but there are some restrictions. I don't know, maybe this was one of them.

It wasn't so much that it's a great and wonderful article. It's not. it's just a very short piece with stuff I'm sure most people here already know. It's that a "paper of record" (and one with something of an international readership) can be bothered with people like us enough to make us an archetype of a year - and not in a bad way.

It's uses Caitlyn Jenner's cover as the central event. But the FT doesn't like you copying it's articles - and you're not supposed to do that here anyway. So, that's as much as you're getting. ;)
