quote of the day
Quote by Carrie FISHER ( writer, actress daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher)........ "Here's how men think. Sex, work - (and those two are reversible depending on age) - sex, work, food, sports and lastly, begrudgingly, relationships.
And here's how women think. Relationships, relationships, relationships, work, sex, shopping, weight, food."
And here's how women think. Relationships, relationships, relationships, work, sex, shopping, weight, food."
Watch nature, because it’s our greatest teacher, it moves and flows and moves on again. We can never be free until we disengage, so allow life to flow as you find it. The way it is, is the way it is.

This is from the movie "Shall We Dance". Susan Sarandon is replying to the detective she has hired in answer to the question of "Why do we get married?"
Susan:
"Why is it, do you think, that people get married?
Because we need a witness to our lives.
There’s a billion people on the planet – what does any one life really mean?
But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything – the good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things, all of it, all the time, every day. You’re saying your life will not go unnoticed, because I will notice it - your life will not go unwitnessed, because I will be your witness."
This may not be the only reason we get married but it is one of the reasons, I believe.

Re: Quote
Money, social status, getting ahead in a career, companionship, convincing others that one is not gay, and regular sex would be among the many other reasons. There actually are about 6.4 billion people on the planet, and each of them must find meaning in her or his own life—or it will not occur. Susan Sarandon’s statement undoubtedly resonates with many Americans, but others would argue that a partner couldn’t give life meaning for you. If you have found something worth doing on your own, which does give your life meaning beyond yourself, then maybe you have a fighting chance of being a positive factor in someone else’s life. Country & Western songs are notorious for their theme that finding the right person will make one’s life happy and fulfilling, but the real challenge is make one’s life happy and fulfilling and then find the right person. In Dr. David Burns’ book, Intimate Connections, he pointed out that most people who insist, “I have so much to give someone!” actually often are putting a socially agreeable spin on what they really mean, which is, “I want so much, and someone should give it to me!” As an actress, I greatly admire Susan Sarandon, but some of what her characters say is aimed at appealing to popular sentiments that may or may not be valid.Paige wrote:Susan [Sarandon]:

I find this post interesting because it actually does have some implications for crossdressers, who also are seeking a sense of self-worth and the other things Susan Sarandon’s character seems to have had in mind. Neediness is understandable in CD’s, but it has a way of trapping us. As Lacey Leigh wrote in her book, Out & About: The Emancipated Crossdresser, those who just want some low-profile sympathy from those willing to provide it “aren’t generating much of a legacy for [anyone else]. Must every new generation of the transgendered fight the same battles?”
Take care,

It is more beautiful superficially than when critically analyzed. Susan Sarandon’s character was expressing the idea that we can fulfill ourselves by finding someone to make us happy. The opposite is more true. Work on yourself first. We need to find some happiness before we find someone to accompany us on the rest of our journey. I was disagreeing with the idea, not dissecting it to learn its mysteries!YASKY(SO) wrote:A beautiful sentiment, disected to death!
