You've no doubt hear the story of the guy who was really down on his luck and questioned his faith, but he began going to church and praying, everday and everyday it was basically the same prayer, "Lord, please just let me win the lottery!" This went on for several month and nothing!!
Then one day he was more fervent that ever before, 'Lord if you love, if you can hear me - show me a sign, something let me know if I am going to win the lottery or don't you care." In the quite church - no one else around the voice of the Lord boomed out "Idiot - you need to play to win!"

"Chrysler recalls 681,000 minivans in North America

AUBURN HILLS, MICH. - The Dodge Caravan, the best-selling minivan in Canada, is among the 681,000 vans being recalled because of a possible fire hazard caused by apower steering hose, DaimlerChrysler announced Wednesday.
Affecting about 150,000 vans in Canada and 482,000 in the U.S., the recall targets 2002 and 2003 Dodge Caravans, Grand Caravans, Chrysler Voyagers and Town & Country models.
A hose that carries power-steering fluid may become weak with age and begin to leak, raising the possibility of a fire under the hood, said Chrysler spokesperson Max Gates.
The automaker also believes that cold weather can aggravate the problem.
In recent months, drivers of these minivans have reported 23 incidents – 17 in Canada – but none have led to injuries or accidents, Gates said.
Minivan owners affected by the recall will receive a letter informing them of the problem and replacement parts will be available in early September, he added.
The company also announced a recall of 2,000 2004 Dodge Rams due to a potential problem with an alternator wire, which could hit a valve and cause a short circuit or fire.
There have been no such incidents reported in the Rams, Gates said. "

I have a slighty different view of faith, while I agree with :

I feel that faith in and of itself is also very powerful. I see faith as another word for belief. If I truly believe and hold a strong faith that things will get better, or I will find a way to earn the money I need, etc....Thsoe things will happen. Just holding a postive attiuded and a strong belief creates a lot of positive energy, which in turn attracts more positive energy to you. I guess what I am saying is that I think that faith can fit both descripitions

Hi all,

There are just some things in life that can not be changed, yet I have met those who have faith that some of those things will be changed. Where is the power in faith when applied to such things? And what good is it to them?

For example for many years I held the belief that I would be cured of the need to cross-dress. and especially so after I became a Christian. We all know what happened to that. In fact it was down right dangerous, It is my belief that it hurt me. I believe it contributed to the health condition that I now have, by not cross-dressing for those eight years. I have found that in some things, you will either have the pain of discipline...or the pain of regret.


And that is not the only example, I used that one because it is something we all can identify with. I think one needs to be careful of extremes.

And if you don't think this is an extreme view, please enlighten me. How can faith be taken to the extreme? Please give an example? And how are we to know what we desire will come to pass?

Wow, you ask some deep questions

Yes, I think faith can be taken to extremes, as with all things.

There are just some things in life that can not be changed, yet I have met those who have faith that some of those things will be changed.

I wish I could remember the exact quote but what I recall is:

Lord, grant me the strength to change those things I can
The courage to accept those things I can't
And the wisdom to know the difference

I guess that leads to the question: How does one know what can't be changed? That gets a bit complicated, because I feel that there is a slew of things that can be changed. What can't, I think has to deal with mostly who one is, core personality traits and sexual prefernces, for instance. I have a terrible temper, I cannot change that, but I can control it. I cannot change the fact that I feel more like an androgenous being than a woman. I cannot alter my nurturing nature. But, I can change, my job, I have the power to alter my moods, I can change my mind. I can rethink my opinions and beliefs. I have the power to live my life anyway I want.

Nobody can change who somebody else is. I feel that too many people have taken faith to this extreme. It's so easy to do, I have done it, even though I knew better.

And how are we to know what we desire will come to pass?

Well, one way is to work for what one desires. If one desires a better job, one must take the appropriate steps to attain it. Faith is a means of holding a postive train of thought that one will be able to succeed in what one works towards. Self fulfilling prophecy, if one thinks the best will happen, it probably will. And of course the inverse is also true.

I think we agree in general on this issue, however I am not able to live this life the way I would choose. If I had my say I would not be a cross-dresser. Hence the pain of discipline.

Faith for me provides the assurance that a way will be provided, where by I can be content and at peace, even in the event that all things may not work out as I wish they would.

You are coming before that infinite power that called into being our world, our universe, all universes and space itself. This power not only designed the vast ranges of the human brain and spirit, but from the beginning made plans so ages later we could "discover" the Internet. Think deeply on this, lest you pray to a God who is too small.

Never tell such a power what ought to be done. Just open your life so that power can flow through it, but be aware you might be blown in directions you never planned.

And this is true even when your life falls apart, for that incredible Power understands the bewilderment of a broken heart.

And when you have prayed, either alone or in a prayer group, get up off your knees, shedding the spiritual duet of the group, and go out into the streets of your city where reality often blows chill. For me, Louis Untermeyer says it best:

Yep, I would definitely say we agree. I can totally understand that, as your path is a difficult one to walk.

Ah, indeed a way will be provided, but I think one does have to do some work on one's own to find that way. I feel that the Powers That Be will give guidance when guidance is sought, but They very seldom, if ever, give one the ultimate solution.

I think that if one is unhappy, one should figure out all the reasons for their unhappiness, change what they are able to, and work towards accepting what they cannot change. Always holding that faith that one will eventually find what one is seeking

I concur with what you have written. The part of the situation as I see it, is the danger one can fall into by believing that if things do not turn out the way they think they should, they then think there faith was not good enough, and miss the blessing that was intended for them, simply because there focus had been misdirected.

Right again, However the solution that has been provided for me is one that I would not be willing to exchange for what I once thought was the ultimate solution. It just came packaged in a different box.
