I cannot figure what's the appeal in watching NASCAR races. I can understand the appeal for race car drivers and others involved with automobile racing, but a mass appeal to a broad section of America? To me it seem to be a big PR stunt -- eventually viewers will tire of it and gravitate to other more interesting-to-watch sports.
Has anyone here ever actually sat through 3 hours straight of watching a NASCAR race on TV then get excited about watching another NASCAR race next week?
I'm not knocking it -- I just don't understand the mass appeal.

My favorite sport is baseball. I was manager (scorekeeper, equipment manager, practice player) one year each in jr. high and high school, actually played in a game in high school. I also played fantasy baseball for 8 years. I made it to Yankee Stadium this summer, have been to several Toronto Blue Jays games.
I also watch NFL football, have been to a few Buffalo Bills games.
I sometimes watch Buffalo Sabres hockey.
I used to go to dirt track stock car races when some people I went to community college with drove. I got to drive a couple of practice laps. I lost my interest, though after I moved away.
I don't care for basketball or boxing. My wife likes basketball, especially WNBA. I just remember all through school seeing a basketball only at gym class and having to play against starting JV/varsity players. I was glad when class was over. I think boxing is just brutality.
I don't care that much for other sports.
These are my personal opinions. Yours are allowed to differ.

My favorite sports:
NFL, Hockey not really the NHL but my local team part of the ECHL, NASCAR and to answer an earlier question Yes I have gotten excited about a race comming on next week after watching all 3 hours. Women gymnastics and ice skating both because I want to wear what they are and I love the grace of motion.
Sports I do not like:
Basketball, I cannot stand it. I have the same feeling about basketball that some have about Nascar. Tennis and golf I have no real love for however I like golf video games. Go figure.
Most other sports I am indifferent to.
