Thanks for reminding me of my other hobby....

Taking clothing that has a couple "wrong" attributes to them (frill where there should be none, etc) and altering them to better suit Jassmine's and mine taste.

Still waiting on moving into the house before I claim my mom's old sewing machine to make things MUCH easier on my fingers.

I bet if the guys looked closely they would find themselves doing a few odds and ends that most guys don't do like this. For example, the "home maker" really is a feminine aspect that's being accepted in society as a male OR female role now. Despite the fact that it has everything to do with caring for and nurturing a family, which has traditionally been the female's role in life.

I challenge everyone to really think of how society in general pidgeon-holes the things that they take for granted as being male or female, both the men and the women.

I bet you will all be surprised at how far the cross overs have gone. ;)

Hello,

I am currently a truckdriver for a pet supply company. I used to drive for a grocery chain until I was fired because of my off duty crossdressing in 2000.

I thought it was a violation of my civil rights but the court disagreed.
The new employer knows all about it. They don't totally agree with it but don't totally disaprove of it either.

The new job pays less then the old one. There is a lot less stress and headaches now. There is one perk: I make deliveries to the old job, so they are still reminded that I am still around. The old employer left the impression with my wife and myself that they would prefer that we both were nowhere in sight.

This was a very disturbing case, especially considering that you had been a reliable employee since 1979, with consistently outstanding evaluations by supervisors. The following is an excerpt from a legal deposition taken from Winn-Dixie Louisiana’s President, Michael Istre. The deposition was taken taken on December 11, 2002:

Q: Please tell me why [the plaintiff] was terminated.
A: I was concerned about my business and what kind of impact and effect that this – this type of behavior would have on my business and my customer base that if my customers saw him that we have got – and that’s pretty much it. Why – the reason why was because of my business, what kind of effect it would have on my customer base.

Q: Was there any other reason why you terminated [the plaintiff]?
A: No.

There also was a sworn deposition from the fired CD’s supervisor, Gregory Miles, who said the man was fired because members of the public who saw him crossdressed away from work would somehow “put two and two together” and associate him with Winn-Dixie. This, he speculated, could cause people to think Winn-Dixie approved of the man’s personal life, and might lead people to buy groceries elsewhere.

This would be humorous if it were not so serious in its consequences, and so fundamental to our freedoms. Supposedly, in this country, we have been endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As long as we do not trample on the same rights for others, we are free to live our lives according to our own sense of what is best for us and those we care about. I believe the legal decision permitting Winn-Dixie to fire a person because of his off-the-job clothing preferences illustrates how much our basic Constitutional rights are being erroded.

I am very glad to know that things have worked out well, but I would hope that others, especially those on this forum, would come to recognize some of the un-American trends in our society and the need to reverse those trends if we are to have a free society in the years ahead.
Take care,

No disrespect intended. In fact, I was pointing it out as a Good Thing(tm). It always disgusted me when I ran into a "husband" that had nothing to do with the home other than to eat, sleep, and get laid. Raising a familly to me is something that both parents (when there are two) are responsible for.

I was merely trying to point out the shift that society has been making over the last 50 years as a "we're getting there" example.

It is one of the things that makes me believe that no matter how against something society is, they will eventually learn to accept it if it is truly non-harmfull to society in general.

Donna,

You were the person in the Winn-Dixie case? When you wrote about that I remembered hearing about that and was wondering. Even though the court didn't agree with you, I applaud you for standing up for your rights, you are a true hero. =D> ``5

Hi girls,

I don't work anymore because I have fibromyalgia. But before I quit working I was working as a General Forman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. I am a Master Electrician. Before that I had my own eletrical contracting business in Wyoming for 6 years. Unfortunately the recession there started before the rest country because it relies on the Pacific rim for sales of soda ash, made cheaply from trona. I borrowed for a while, but eventually had to fold it up. Before that I ran another eletrical contracting business for 4 millionaires, who were the ones who staked me in my own electrical contracting business, by extending me credit, cosigning all my accounts, and turning thier entire cliental base to me, since I was the one who really created it.

Yes, almost 20 of my hair on fire, needs to be done yesterday world of electrical contracting. While trying to keep the men below you from being injured or killed. Definitely Type A personalities only. It was also a job that required physical strength, extensive education, continued re-education, good people skills, ability to motivate a work force, understanding how money is made. I also was the Compaq warranty guy in Wyoming, while I ran my eletrical contracting business.

I coached little league football, played in numerous rock bands, and tried to support others so they could live a good life.

I wore a lot of hats, but none of them were more real to me than coaching little league football. Winning for us meant everyone got to play, and everyone had fun playing. That's it. I loved all the kids I coached and tried to teach them to face their fears, because the other guy probably has not, and that can be your advantage. That way everyone can win, not just a few gifted athletes.

Love to all,
Elizabeth

I'm in the security buisness, and work on many different levels. I got caught in a printing press once, and I do recall it taking quite a bit of work to get myself unstuck. Do I qulify for the "Printing Club"? LOL

Yes!

[However, people that have accidently stapled themselves to the periodicals they're stapling together with the stapling machine do NOT qualify for the printing club!  ]

Hi All--
This is a fun thread!

I'm finding I like reading the posts with history on them. I never talk about my old jobs with anyone, really.

I delivered TV sets and put up antennas when I was in high school. My Dad had run a TV shop before he went back to teaching, so I learned the trade, and then worked for other shops.

In college I worked for a state park in the summers. I liked that a lot! We mainly ran enormous grass mowers, and did a daily garbage run of 700 some barrels. They were full 33 gallon steel drums--I can't believe I used to pick them up all day long.

Since I was destined to be a rock star (wink, wink), I didn't bother to finish college. I took on temp work, which was interesting. I got to work in a steel mill, drive forklifts, and sort bulk mail at the post office at Chistmastime.

I spent five years as a machinist, back before computers took over. I quit that, went back to temp work, and eventually found my way into running my own hardwood floor company. I've been there ever since, and I've got a business partner I really enjoy working with.

And I still play guitar as a gal, which I'm VERY grateful for, as you can all imagine.

Hi,
I have worked for the same company 29 1/2 years. I graduated 7th
out of 450 at my high school. I did good at first year engineering at a
junior college. The next year I went to Nebraska U and had a nervous
breakdown. I had no experience or know how to take care of my needs
or how to socialize. I was in the University Hospital at Christmas time.
My mother called after several days and informed me they were on
vacation and that I would have to fend for my self since I failed and
dropped out of college. I got a job at a department store wrapping
packages for delivery.

When March came around and they needed a slave to farm for them again
they came and got me. I loved to farm as it was about the only thing I
had done all my life. I was resigned to be their slave for life because
I failed school. Of course they continued to encourage me like they had
done all my life telling me how worthless I was. They never paid me a
wage. They said I got clothes and a roof over my head, I should be happy.

I met my future wife, and still wife, got married and my parents said I
could come home when things didn't work out with her. My parents live
20 miles from here and we have been esstranged for all these years.

I got a job in receiving counting and stocking parts. I worked up because
I was always a hard worker and fairly intelligent. I became the highest
paid hourly worker in the plant of 100 people in 1994. I work on cnc
(computor numerical control) metal working machines. I know enough
electronics to trouble shoot and repair power supplies and ac and dc
variable motor control drives. (not every time).
I got an electrician license in '94. I'm a heck of
a mechanic, welder, machine control trouble shooter and electrician.
I have designed and built many cranes and designed and built many
dynamic testing apparatus stations for products that we build. Even for
all that I'm not real literate on computor use.

In '99 I got a friend into a position working with me. I trained him with all
my hard won knowlege. I supported him and praised him to the Engineer.
All the time he was in stabbing me in the back with the engineer. And like
Deborah's experience this engineer must have gotten his degree mail
order. He was never very smart but I thought I had been working well
with him. He took my past friend and made him my supervisor. It is a
joke and the people in the plant know it. This old back stabbing friend
professes he is a devote Christian. Yea, Right!

My wife thinks I should live with it. I can't no matter how hard I try. I am
currently working on my self esteem more so that I can walk into
another workplace and do a good interview and sell my good attributes.
I have never been able to be vocal and proud of my abilities. I am
getting better. I still have doubts that linger deep in me.

A national pet food company has a driver that is going through transition
to becoming a woman. I have heard a lot of good things about this
company. It hurts me so bad hearing Donna's story and I agree with
what Jamie Anne said about freedom in this country.

After all this some may wish I would disappear again and take my
long stories with me. I'm sorry but telling all this brought me down.
Don't worry I'll be fine in a few minutes.

I love you all!
Take Care,
Kersten

I'd be proud of those accomplishments kersten after that rough start. Having the same job for 29 years AND still working there is a PLUS to take with you on a job interview! Who doesn't want to move up? I know I'd want to hire you -- loyal workers are rare these days. Good luck.

Hey Gang,

Hmmmm....My job(s)....Well in helping Ahzz with TerraBox, I find that I get to do all kinds of things: Secretary, accounting, graphics art, customer relations, oh and my least favorite, but neccessary evil, janitor. I also work part time as a Lost Prevention Specialist, in other words, I get to sit in an otherwise empty room and make sure expensive AV equipment doesn't walk off. Yeppers, it is as boring as it sounds. I almost forgot, I am also a full time Domestic Goddess

*Hugs* @->->-
Blessings Eternal, Jassmine
