Hi all,

MG,

That's cool, that you're reading classics--they're too often forgotten. Odysseus is a major adventurer, as far as I'm concerned... Sinbad the sailor doesn't compare (and neither do the Baron Munchhausen or Dorothy from Kansas); he's in a league all his own. Ah, "crafty" Odysseus! (I have to admit, though, that I do think Penelope was a tad too patient!)

On a side note: I don't know what possessed me, but I went to see Troy, starring Brad Pitt in the role of Achilles (based on Homer's The Iliad). Leave it to Tinseltown to condense ten years into three weeks! At least there were no explosions (given that the Chinese wouldn't be inventing gun powder for another 1,800 years or so)!!!

---

Aside from the books mentioned above, I'm also currently dipping into America, written by The Daily Show staff writers (most notably, Jon Stewart). It's, uh, well, slightly irreverent. The subtitle says it all: A Citizen's Guide To Democracy Inaction. :-k

Love,
CJ

I'm currently reading Reefer Madness And Other Tales From The American Underground by Eric Schlosser and The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast.

Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser had a big effect on me. It was a catalyst in me becoming vegetarian, the descriptions of what happens in some meat-packing factories turned my stomach, I am pretty certain I won't eat meat ever again.

Whenever I want a light read to put a smile on my face, I pick up a Bill Bryson book... guaranteed to make me laugh!

Love,
Curly(SO) :)

I'm 'between books' for a few hours - just finished Terry Pratchett's 'A Hat Full Of Sky' and soon to start Alexander McCall Smith's 'The Full Cupboard Of Life'.

Dressing Up (Transvestism & Drag, The History of an Obsession) by Peter Ackroyd.

It's an old book (1979) but I go back to it now and again.
