Today I am so upset I just want to scream and say "the hell with it all".
Nothing to do with crossdressing but the weather. I have worked so hard in my garden and it is my pride and joy. Last night we got some rain that we really needed and it rained so hard it beat my garden to the ground. My corn is gone it was 5' high with stacks growing, my tomatoes are all beat down but with luck I may recover them. Everything is down and I really and truly want to just cry, all that work and sweat all gone. You know when you retire you still need something to do and something to keep you busy. My garden was my life and it's wiped out. Bad enough I can not dress as much as I would like because of the grand children but this just put me down so bad. It's to late to start another summer garden and to soon to put in a winter garden.
Look I am sorry if I bored everyone with my problem, but I just needed to get it off my bra (chest)
Oh Carol, my brother-in-law just lost 240 ACRES of wheat to 8 inches of rain and hard wind and a small flash flood that overwhelmed his drainage in the field, all within days of being ready for harvest. Really, he was just waiting on it to be dry enough to get the machinery in to do the job. His field corn survived, sorta, but now he says he will have to do well with soybeans in that field to make his payment on the land. They sold the dairy cows in a bid to try to shift their business to slightly less demanding beef cows and mixed market farming. So this is not good!! They had used the winter wheat as pasture over the cold months so they got some value from it. I am sure he can sympathize with you, but has said repeatedly, that plants are fragile and at the mercies of nature, and you gotta have patience and be able to bounce with the weather if you are gonna farm--- or garden!

You know, although it may seem like it's too late to try again, it's not, just takes more care, added nutrients to the soil and the proper amount of water.
I gardened in my younger days, and could grow crop when no one else could.
Oh, I'm sorry that you lost your corn and tomatoes, Carol Ann - - but no one can control Mother Nature . . . would that we could!!
My dad, his parents, and all his ancestors were all of farming stock, and could grow crops (and flowers!) like crazy . . . and I've inherited that gene.
I agree with Donna - - love, patience, and lots of added nutrients, and I'm sure you'll get that garden going again for harvesting this summer.

Hi Carol Ann
I only have a container garden on my deck. When things don't make it it's not the end of the world but you do feel bad if you spent the time and energy and they die. Mine looks like crap this year. It seems to rain a bit every night and they are drowning.
There is something nice about planting things and watching them grow. It's one of lifes simple pleasures. I wouldn't want to do it for a living because you are at the mercy of nature and she gets pretty rowdy sometimes. Farming is long, hard, backbreaking work and you can be wiped out in one day. It's a bit like life. Here today, gone tomorrow. Hugs
Love
Jeannie
PS I just got up from the shop Carol Ann. More rush jobs! If I hear ASAP one more time I'm commiting myself for a rest.
Jeannie Baby,
That's why you will be a millionaire one day

Now I really feel bad after hearing about your brother-in-laws lost. Gosh I only have a little patch of dirt to play in about 40ft. x 40ft thats plenty for me to take care of and I get plenty out of it. Here in Missouri a lot of farmer lost all their early wheat crop and no peaches this year because of a very late killing freeze. My lost is nothing compared to their.
DonnaT, SL,
Lady's I have plenty of nutrients it's called cow chips,
Now there is a happy side to this, my new heels arrived today.
I'm sorry to hear about your garden. I've mostly given up on this over the years (we've talked about my adventures with the squirrels and rabbits) but maybe when I retire I'll do it again. My parents had a vegtetable garden like yours which was where we got most of our produce from in the summer.
We have lots of raspberries here. Why don't you try some of them? They're just about indestructable as long as they get some sun and the birds never eat more than about half.

Sorry to hear about your garden, I lost my tomatos to a late frost....chipmonks ate the tops off the beans and peppers.....but, on the bright side you didn't lose any loved ones and your home is intact
Cheer up there is always next year and now you have time to fish
