A (tentative) idea . . . Answered

Post by Celia »

Have any of the site staff here (founders, administrators, moderators, etc.) considered having off-duty memberships made for themselves? After all, do I log into my machine as an administrator if I just want to play solitaire? If my next-door neighbor, Joe, is a police officer, am I more likely to call him by his first name if he takes his uniform off after work or if he leaves it on? Sometimes our attention might be drawn more to a person's status than to what she has to say . . . .

Just a thought,
Celia :)

I do, I think.

Sounds like she's suggesting Shannon, for example, sign on as Tonnya, for example, and ask for advice, and suggesting that the advice we would give would be different for Tonnya than Shannon.

I certainly hope no one offers advice based on the person's status, that wouldn't be very honest.

Donna's in the ball park, but I'm not suggesting someone create a membership to disguise who they are. What I'm suggesting is, in creating the new membership, something like affixing a couple of letters to a regular forum name to indicate something less . . . formal. BeautyAH, SharonSR, ShannonOTR (After Hours, Sans Regalia, Off The Record, respectively), for examples. The avatars, sigs, and so forth could be the same (maybe), but perhaps the title would be different: Site Administrator could become Sapphire Goddess (or however that system allots titles), etc.

I guess the basic idea here is that of wearing the uniform when you need it and taking it off when you don't. :)
