I would be glad to post pics if I were able to reduce them to a level required by this site. I have gone to what I believe to be my picture editing area of the computer and have been able to do most anything with a particular picture but reduce the size. The pictures I have stored are in the 135-150kb area and the computer has Windows XP operatng system. Suggestions?

Start
All Programs
Accesories
Paint
Open the pic and on the menu bar select Image and Stretch/Skew
Then as an example:
Set both Verticle and Horizontal to 50% and you should be able to Save it at 1/4 the size. Just keep the two percentages the same and the aspect ratio will be correct.
If you neee more help, just ask. There are many here who can jump right in!

As you have discovered, you need a program that reduces a pictures physical size.
Additionally, you will want to compress the image to reduce the data size.
JPEG pictures and JPEG compression are the best way to go.
If the program has the option, try to convert the picture to 72 dpi (dots per inch),
Here's a site with freeware you can download for JPEG compression.

You may have to make sure your pop-up blocker (if you have one) is turned off.

Hugz,

Thank you for the advice. I was able to reduce the pic to 24kb from nearly 140 but it still isn't accetpted. I get the message that the pixels need to be no greater than 100x100. I have no doubt that posting a picture to this site is not that difficult because I see so many with all the posted messages. I'm sure it's more my inability than the fact that the site has difficult requirements but I've never had this problem with other sites, forums, or groups on Yahoo or MSN.

Thanks for the suggestion and link. It appears this site has three different free downloads available. Will one specific one be adequate or do I need all three, provided I choose to go with this method? I have to say, at this point, I may just forgo posting any pics due to the trouble involved. Anyone that wants to see me can just go to my yahoo profile (cdreana).

Att he top where it says Quick Download JPEG Wizard 1.4.1. that should be all you need.

Reana,
It looks like you are trying to upload in the Profile area. This is for an Avatar (the picture to the left of our posts). If you want to upload a regular full size picture, you must go into the Photo Gallery. In there the sizes you mention should be fine.
If you mean the in-line pictures in posts then the picture has to reside on the net somewhere so you can link to it.

Yes, I have made the attempt to put a pic in the avatar area. Since I never got past that, I haven't tried any of the galleries. Until I either get an avatar uploaded successfully or totally lose interest in the whole thing, I will concentrate on just the avatar. In any case, I thank those of you that have tried to help.

Reana,
I submit the following from the upload page:
Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 100 pixels, the height no greater than 100 pixels, and the file size no more than 35 KB.
This is for the Avatar. There are two (2) limitations; pixel size and file size. You must adhere to both. If you are having trouble using an editor to reduce the size and would like me to help you, please email me with the original picture attached and I will format it and send it back to you.
Hugs, Paige
