ABC 'All My Children' to introduce a transgendered person

Happy New year to everyone.
I just read that All My Children will be introducing a male to female transgendered person to the cast.

She is to come out slowly and depending on the response may do the entire transition. I applaud ABC for doing this and they intend to handle it in a sensitive manner. I wish they would do it more of a man coming out to his wife as a crossdresser but whatever gets society to see this in a better light, the better. The actor was on The View and all of the ladies but Rosie seemed appalled. It just shows how our society is unaccepting of anything outside the "traditional" relationship. I do not know if it's the pregnancy hormones in me but it really made me upset to read that 57% of the fans did not want the storyline.
I thought I would let you all know so that we can maybe get some support out there for this topic.

Hi, Lisa -
I've heard the same news some time ago, but as I don't watch the soaps I couldn't recall the name of the show. I applaud ABC and I wish them success on their attempts to handle this in a sensitive manner.
As for The View - too much bickering, IMO, but I'm not surprised that only Rosie O'Donnell was 'for' the MTF character. She is a lesbian and I would hope that anyone in the GLBT 'group' would lend support to one another. The more that the general public can be educated, the better, for that would, hopefully, lead to less discrimination.
Just my 2c!

This kinda suprises me, when you look at the movie "TransAmerica" and the great reviews and raves it got when it came out.

Hi ya Lisa,
It's not your hormones,I get extremely emotional when I hear stories of people just not even being tolerant of difference.
However unaccepting is a tough word, when the majority of the public would not have the information as such to make an informed decision, like yeh....I get it...their still people.I think people forget about that when they are critical of another.
We need to see a few more movies like Transamerica, where emotions, guilt and even shame came out...that life is'nt just about having the op and all is better. The more education as long as it is in the positive and fact not myth...the public have to draw upon, the better.
Good luck with the pregnancy

I saw part of the soap last week and the actor was on. Some preview scenes hinted that the person was "unusual", I think I remember a woman he was getting involved in was actually attracted more to women than men... (sorry, I wasn't paying all that much attention at the time.)
Also, I heard this announced sometime last month, maybe by someone here on the forum in a different area...
This is not the first time a soap opera, sorry daytime drama, has entered the T-world. I remember back in the 90s that one of them had a crossdressing character on.

A CD on another forum and her wife have been watching it.
Seems her wife had a breakthrough and is now talking more about it, and has come to a better understanding of why.

That is wesoe that the wife has had a beakthrough! I am not a soap watcher but I have been watching this. They did a really geat job yesterday in showing the feelings that one ut go through when not accepted. I hope this helps to bring more compassion and understanding.

I have been watching this soap as I have been on a vacation for the last two weeks. My concern is that are not portraying Zoey/Zarf in a very good light. I wish one of these shows one day would show the positive. Zarf is not acting in a way that would change anyones already horrible image of us. I hope that changes with time. I may never know as I return to work on Monday and it will be another year before I have another vacation and hopefully I will be able to afford to do more than just have time off next year........thinking more Bahamas than home watching soaps........haha.
