I made the mistake of purging all of my hand me down thrift store clothing.
I still have left two nice shoulder purses, earrings, necklaces , some petticoats and , of course, all of my makeup. Also and pair of pumps and a pair of heels.
On the net today and checked out Blair online store.
I found:
Paisley tiered skirts
Pastel skirts
Print skirts
All elastic waists with a great variety of colors.
For tops:
Mock turtle neck
casual pullovers
Dressy Pullovers
All long sleeved to hide mt hairy arms.
Nice purses and tote bags
and
both nylon and cotton panties.
This would give me a start rebuilding my wardrobe again.
Would cost a few hundred dollars but would be worth to to start a wardrobe again.
One day I would just love to get a beautiful evening gown for formals.
What do you girls think?
Anything else I need to start over with?
Have a great day!
Martha

Re: STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN
Sorry you did a purge. Seldom a good thing to do and usually very spendy as you point out the rebuilding. You can take the rebuilding slow and it would not be as big of a jolt to your wallet.

Never purge, ever! Only get rid of things that do fit or will never be worn.
Martha, really, for someone that claims to merely enjoy period costuming, you sure like your feminine clothing!
BTW, we both shop Blair. Not the best quality, but very affordable.

No don't purge girl. You never know when one of those items in the future might be handy in an outfit. If I might use myself as a sample, I have now purchased enough clothes to be independent and able to life 24/7, as I am. Yes most of my clothes are not expensive, but now I have a "base" and I can concentrate on maintenance and looking at the more "expensive", better quality clothes, when some need replacement.
And that 10 dollar blouse might look mighty hot with a 100 dollar skirt, just name a sample.
Erin.

Martha,
From your list, I would add some pants, capri's, tank tops with jackets, and scarves.

Re: Starting All Over Again
Of course it was a bad idea to totally get rid of everything. But we should look at it as a learning experience.
There was probably quite a bit that needed to go anyway, but what did you get rid of that you wish you hadn't? That would be what I bought first.
Then of course you will need a supply of bras, panties, nylons, tights, and cami's. So I would take the opportunity to stock up on just the styles, and colors that you will really wear, in the correct sizes. I know that when I first started, I bought a lot of stuff that either didn't fit well, turned out to be totally inappropriate for me, or was on sale and I thought I'd like but didn't. Consequently I will need to do the great sorting out, one of these days.
Rather than just filling the list, I'd take this opportunity to upgrade. If you make the list too long at first, you will be tempted to compromise on some things just to get the list filled with the budget and time you have. I would suggest rather that you find an outfit you want for a particular reason: morning coffee at the local coffee shop; Sunday dress for church; dinner with friends, etc. Even if it's just jeans and a sweater for working around the yard, I'd think first about buying something I wanted to wear for a particular reason, and then look for just the right thing.

Purging is a totally futile activity. Sooner or later, you are going to desire to dress again and that means spending a lot of money to make amends. I know from experience because I have purged at least four times and have lost some beautiful clothes and jewelry. If you ever have the urge to purge again, think about putting your nicest things away in storage or hiding them in a secret place. You will never regrtet it.

Re: Starting All Over Again
I too purged and tried to erase Sarah a few weeks ago, something I had not done in a few years. For a week or so it felt great a release, but it seems the need the desire is unavoidable. Arguably there was a lot to of rubbish that needed to go but make up, wig, shoes, lingerie all cost ££.
We live and learn and at the time I knew I would regret it. The family will all be away at the in laws over Easter. It looks like Sarah will be going shopping !!
