Skin care?

Post by Anne Bonny »

I have wondered about the real need for "skin care" is it more hype, does it really make much difference at all? I know we can have oily skin...I did when I was younger, now I wonder is there really any need at all for a moisturizer like Aveeno which I believe has a connection to oatmeal which as an RN know is soothing for dry skin and does not irritate. I know so many lotions and potions burn if applied to irritated skin because come to find out they contain alcohol!! I suppose having to do with fragrances?

My problem is if you apply moisturizer as if there is really a need...who knows...my skin then looks oily, and what of potentially leading to blocked pores, then the acne which scarred my face when I was a teenager.

I suppose if applied after washing with a mild fragrance free soap or perhaps with just plain water and patting dry, a fingertip amount of moisturizer is probably all that is needed to do most of your face. The key with foundation is a tiny amount goes a long way, assume the same applies with moisture lotions. Too much is not good, but if you have dry skin...I am not sure I do but I am 58...then perhaps at some point it might be good to experiment to see if applying a little in the morning does anything...anything at all...

I have eyed the Oil of Olay Pro X facial cleanser with the battery operated brush to exfoliate your skin after which moisture can be applied...hum...MONEY....Is a $40 facial scrubber with expensive exfoliation and moisture lotions really worth the expense over two hands and a little mild soap, perhaps Camay...or Neutragena...with a little warm water, then pat dry with a wash cloth. I learned using your bare hands is best, save the towel to dry. probably get the same results. Hey...I use shaving soap every morning then scrape my face...well half of it...should be clean and exfoliated at the same time! leaving just the upper part of my face, hell just do the whole thing after shaving. But you know if you dry your skin I remember it makes your skin actually produce more oil to replace what you washed off...kind of a rebound then your skin is dry, red and irritated...but I was a teenager with an acne problem...this is different and I am older and wiser.

I suppose I would have to try this every morning for a while to see. A physician once stated he did not believe in "rocking the boat" if there is no problem why make one. Well I think I am going to try just some warm water, pat dry and a tiny bit of Aveeno.

Thoughts?

Hi,

What happens is your skin drys out and does need something out in the sun or windy days a dry nor wester will dry you out and your body has a lose of fluid no water , and you have a dry mouth so look at it that way ,

i worked out in the sun on building sites and did not use cream or any thing age 17 on 1965 on and still have lovely skin and tones because of olive skin ,so i m okay , the last 15 years i have used what ever creams i can get or given , so my face does not have hard lines or is sun burnt , i did wear a hat so that covered my face some what , though painting house,s and the sun reflected then i got red and some sun burn , just not all the time so did use cream ,

so good or bad well some sun tans and blockers are going to incresse sun burn so be carefull what ones , does oil get hot with the sun on it and can magnifiy the gammer rays sun spots or sun burn .

Oh yes your body makeup does help as mine has ,body pigment and the difference between male and females , ya ya i know ,,,,,
