Concealer

Post by Anne Bonny »

Have not seen any on this topic.

I have a good match on my foundation but even when I shave close which I do every morning with a 5 bladed razor, and then apply my foundation powder the result is not as desired. the lower part of my face is just rougher than everywhere else. Not that I have bluing but it is just not smooth.

Years ago I remember reading about pan stick but sounds as if it would have to be purchased online, would be expensive. It just sounds as if you would be applying something that is thick and heavy and gray....which would require another layer of matching foundation.

I see concealers available...but wonder perhaps I should try a matching liquid foundation which after dry I could cover with my pressed powder?? I am thinking about trying that first. Does anyone else have any words of advice to achieve the effect of flawless beauty on my face? After all our face is the pallet on which we paint a pretty picture as we enhance our brows, eyes and lips....

I use Dermablend (I think it may have a slightly different name in the states). This is sold as a foundation to cover scars etc.. If you're guy, "beard-cover" of one form or another is usually necessary.

What almost everyone here gets wrong is that concealer goes on first, then your foundation.

Think of it like painting your house or walls. You put the primer/sealer ('concealer') on before you put on the paint ('foundation'). Concealer covers the blemishes and beard shadow, foundation provides a uniform skin tone.

Why anyone would want to put on makeup in the reverse order is beyond me, especially when you have to conceal that beard.

Anne if you have roughness it may not be a concealer that you need. When you shave do you go multiple directions? Also do you use a moisturizer? Many people leave off the moisturizer or do not use it all the time.

A concealer would be for helping to cover up a dark beard or to help smooth out the color of your foundation. And as SL has said it is the first thing to go on after moisturizer. I usually put on the moisturizer then start getting dressed putting on my foundations. Then put on concealer, power to set, then foundation, and power to set.

Hope this helps.

Ok...Yes I do use a 5 bladed razor...and shave from about 4 different directions especially on my neck, chin and upper lip what a pain! I wish I were a girl, I hate shaving!!!!

I do use Aveeno moisturizer as an after shave...and at night when I can remember, but will be more regimented about it if it is going to help...I had been thinking women wear make up all day every day or most every day then having to wash and remove it too every day or most every day and such would lead to drier skin...recently purchased one of those motorized brushes and realized it is important for women to clean their pores so much more because of the make up. But we gender fluid types do not wear make up every day let alone all day...we may but for myself it is usually about 6-12 hours only. If it will help I will definitely do it...at end of typing I am going to apply some I forgot this morning.

Dermablend...will have to look on line and will order some if it is available in an appropriate shade...

I suppose concealer ... and yes I do know it would go on first followed by foundation once dry if it needs to dry...

Thanks all!

Oh! so a liquid foundation of the same color as my mineral foundation powder can work as a concealer?? Hope someone answers....Thanks in advance if you do. bye...

Slightly different name, same product in the US:

I buy mine in big Boots (a chain of chemists) stores here with no problem. Means I can ask for help with shades etc.

I purchased Younique concealer because a niece of my wife's helped me find the right shade of foundation...Satin...for my pressed powder foundation and the concealer which matches in Satin I just ordered...not cheap but I need to find what is going to work. the foundation powder is just not enough by itself to cover what is I suppose a little bit of mustache and beard shadow still there after shaving with a 5 bladed razor from for different directions until I feel no stubble. I have light beard growth...I believe if I were to grow a beard and mustache it would be really sparse and probably wind up being more like a mustache and goatee kind of like a musketeer. I have never tried to grow hair on my face though and have no plans too, I wish I had no beard growth...have wondered about expensive oh what is that where they zap each hair follicle?? oh well...you know... Even so just a little while after grocery shopping got back and put on make up and already! grrrr!

I remember hearing that in the early morning your face is slightly puffy and a little while after you get up this goes away and that is when you should shave because if you shave before then once the puffiness is gone the remaining hair comes out...hum...could try that. If I do I will let people know...but believe concealer over the mustache and chin area where my growth is the thickest will do...I mean on my cheeks and neck it's not as thick...kind of sparse...

Hum...nearly $40 for an itty bitty tube. But! it also has an itty bitty tip to dispense it indicating that indeed it only takes an itty bitty bit of it to cover my upper lip and another bit for my chin. It is in the same Satin color as my foundation powder which is Younique an online make up distributor. the effect is better as my upper lip and chin now match the rather rough skin on my cheeks flawlessly. I had horrible acne and was put on steroids when I was a child to back when it was more of an experimental treatment the result was an improvement in my asthma but it caused cystic acne with a huge resulting drop in how I felt about myself at about age 14, can remember liking turtle necks and pulling them up to cover my lower face. My mother took me out and yelled at the specialist stating "Look at his face!" Looks like a piece of raw meat I think was the follow on...it was horrible and I was already shy with low self esteem.... got a referral to dermatology and over time things got better but I still have the scaring...Even after years of shaving and I am now 58. Oh well...

My make up philosophy is to merely highlight my features...just enough but not too much is the key so that it does not look as if I am wearing make up or...almost as if. Of course it's silly to believe we can do our eyebrows, eyes and lips after applying a foundation and to look as if we have no make up on. So of course people are going to know you are wearing make up no matter how light it is but the key is that if people see you without make up they would comment on it ... gee...not wearing any make up today.... That is the prod we use on women on occasion when they look so much better once they have their make up on. And that is the point of make up to make us look and feel better about how we look. But Make up should not be distracting...I suppose it should just be enjoyed by those who look at us, it should make us more attractive and pretty...beautiful.

Make up is an art it is a challenge that take practice buy you will know you have or are getting the hang of it when you look in the mirror and smile or feel feminine, beautiful, and pleased.

Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly we know when we look our best, and we are all biased to state yes...I am beautiful, though it is a face only a mother could love or we ourselves. After all we are doing this more for ourselves than for others - both really I mean we want to look our best so we look better to others, we want to feel pretty, feminine, and more attractive if our make up does that for us then we are doing it correctly.

There are many who go to extremes and way way over the top but I am just a gender fluid person who wants to be the girl I would have been had I been born physically, a female. And Anne ... myself... is just a normal down to earth girl who lives on the Gulf Coast...at home it's casual dress that makes sense and is comfortable, If I go out I would want to look nice, and fit right in with current trends with other women my age and at my economic level which is kind of upper middle, and educated, I am a retired professional, believe I am rather bright...so those are the ladies I would want to fit in with.

I don't know if this will be of interest or not but after shaving I use 'Nivea sensitive cooling post shave balm' before I apply my foundation. It is a great makeup primer and helps smooth my lower face, shaved area, and helps hide my pores. Factor in foundation application is easier after using the balm and it seems to last longer also it's aimed at guys you don't have to hide it from your SO...I say it's a win-win product.
One wears a mask for so long you forget who you are beneath it......I've now removed my mask.
