SilverLady, you said

"Choosing a bra that fits comfortably is probably one of the most nerve-racking things to do - - so many brands, styles, and sizes - - so when you finally do discover the "best one" - stick with that one!".

That is what my wife has done. She basically has one bra maker and style in several different colors, Wacoal 85121. She was fitted for this one bra and loves it and they are not cheap either at over $50 each. She has tried on many other bras, and has even purchased a few, but they never end up fitting like this one does. I just know when they discontinue that bra style life is going to be hell until she finds another that fits good for her.

I find bra's to be torture, if I could get away with never wearing one, I forsure would do that. LoL. I find at night when i start to get tired it has to go. I say the same thing as your wife, why would you wear a bra if you dont have to. But, I understand why and its cool with me. I just wish I never had to.

You can buy them with no support for your bust; with shelf support or even underwire which is my choice. There is no band around the chest or to show under a blouse. My choice in bras and control camis are either Chantelle or Wacoal. High quality but they last forever
Comfort and fit! When I wear a bra I wear it all day long and I don't want to keep having to readjust, When I started dressing I thought I'd need a really tight bra to show off my modest assets, but over the years either I've grown (it happens) or I was wearing the wrong size, because I've worked my way up from a 38B to a 44B. But I fill the cups properly for only one of two of any given company's product. And then they usually discontinue the style after I find it :(

I can sympathize with the GGs who buy a dozen of the same bra, in fact I've bought a half-dozen of a house brand bra at K Mart just because of the fit, but invariably the best always cost.

I just purchased this marvelous one at Avenue that fits me like a second skin with support, shaping, no poking--and--invariably--it's the only one in the store even though I was eligible for the "buy one get one for 50% off" sale. Story of my life!

I guess the lesson is, try it on and if it really fits, seize the moment.

It's one of their house line, also available on their web site, Avenue

at the very bottom left-hand corner, "toile"
The cups fit perfectly and it's otherwise quite comfy
for all-day wearing, which is what I did today. :)

are bras supposed to be uncomfortable?

fantastic question!!!!

I used to think so when I wore heavy hot padded ones, but a few years ago I got fitted and tossed out the padding and now they are not torture devices.

It still feels good to take it off after 12-14 hourse, but I no longer do it in the car on the way home!!!

I usually find bra's to be uncomfortable but I have finally found the perfect bra that you barely know you are wearing it's the Body By Victoria IPEX full coverage bra. It's nice looking and there are no seams on the cup and it feels wonderful... @@9@@

Funny how this thread keeps resurfacing.

Of course for us Cders who like to know we are dressed up wearing a bra that is so comfortable that you forget it's there sort of defeats the purpose at times.

I started this thread about 2 years ago. Two years of working out and considerable weight loss have had quite an effect. I have gone down an entire male shirt size, from extra large to large. Also there is more muscle and less fat and my pecs are better. I find this has had quite an effect on bra selection.

I do like the bralette that Macy's sells. Very light, comfy, inexpensive and you almost forget it's there. But I think it would only be effective for relatively small breasted women. I wear it and my single front hook racerback bra more than all my other bras combined. I love the front hook bra. Its one of the very few underwire bras I've ever found where the wires go in the right place on my torso without the weight of inserts to hold them down. It and the bralette are the only ones I'll even consider wearing without inserts to weigh them down.

I also still like the shelf cami's and some sports bras.

On the other hand I used to find a too tight band annoying and uncomfortable. It has gone beyond that to the point that it can result in actual back pain in the lats and rhomboids. Maybe because they are more developed now. Or maybe they are just often a bit stressed from working out. But as a result I avoid uncomfortable bras more than ever.

And I absolutely can't stand these things in the summer. After all it's all I can do to bring myself to wear a male sleeveless teeshirt some days.

Hey Andrea -

Good to "see" you. I am like your wife - one bra, lots of colors, some with lace some without but one bra manufacturer, size etc. It took a long time to find the "right" bra and I'm fairly done with experimenting. Missy has an amazing variety of bra's - many trial and error - but since I always stress comfort she doesn't seem to have any problems once she figured out her size and yes it does very from manufacturer to manufacturer in relation to size and fit. Happy hunting!

As a lifleong and now pre-op TS for the past 3 1/2 years I have found that yes bras can be uncomfortable if they are not fitted properly. No one does not have to go through a bra fitting to find the bra for you but it can help. I am now between cup sizes, A & B, but thankfully Playtex ahs an entire line for us "tween" gals. My suggestion is to find a bra that fits well and feels good and stick with them. Do be careful because a 36B ib one bra style may be the same as a 36A in another style from the same manufacturer, let alone different manufacturers. The best bet for anyone who can is to try it on before you buy or at least make sure the store has a decent return ploicy.
