Cross dressing while performing music

Post by Morgan »

I feel this would give me another dynamic to playing guitar and challenging listeners to the songs I perform and restricts me less to my creative process in music making

In my experience doing it, I would say that you're right. It gave me additional emotional range that I didn't have as a guy guitarist.

I have recently joined an orchestra as Paula, I'm not sure how much playing has Paula has effected my performance, but I suspect that I am a little less concerned about power and a little more about tonal blending. Though of course it is different being in an orchestra to rock band a whole different form of expression, where you are truly expressing yourself rather than part of a much larger group under the overall guidance of the conductor

On the other hand it does mean I get wear some really cute dresses as opposed to a boring suit.

I play in several jazz groups, always in whatever they tell us to wear. I will practice in my girl clothes, but truthfully I find the clothing a distraction. I try to let the music speak for itself.

I'd actually rather not wear anything femme when playing music. Music is my primary form of wordless expression, and dressing up is another different form. In my world, the two don't intertwine. Like Absaroka, I'd also probably find the clothes a distraction.
Very happy being a guy, but I also love fashion. We are all valued, and my feminine side is just one facet of the gem as a whole.

I dj from time to time, mostly at home. And you know what... I haven't tried dj'ing while dressed up. I'm definitely gonna do it one day. House music is toooo damn sexy not to be used :p

For what it's worth, now that I have taken up guitar, I prefer practicing dressed. Somehow I just feel more focused. It just seems a lot easier for My male side to be distracted. Of course, it's the same way for housework, or anything else creative, as well.

I want to try and start a sub genre of the typical drag music and perform with an instrument. I would like to perform great music that is forgotten. I would revamp the songs with a colorful type output. I have the perfect grungy girl outfit with high pony tail and bangs to the side. Anyone with some makeup tips??

I'm not a DJ, but listen to a lot of music, including House, and would think it would be so sweet spinning tunes while dressed, so that I could mix it up with some feminine tunes as well. House is def a type of music that appeals to a larger group of people, men and women, but I still get nervous around women. Maybe dressed while listening to the music in the club or bar would be easier.

On another note, is there are type of music that makes you feel more feminine? I have to say, it's pop music, but I can also listen to dance, or even heavy metal.
