I keep my nails fairly long so don't need false ones. I just paint them with nail polish to match my outfit when I go out.

I wear them virtually all the time. They also serve as safety equipment for me. I do a lot of work around the house and since I have been wearing them rather long, I have not had any hand or finger injuries. I do wear gloves sometimes which carrying lumber, etc. but basically when I look down and see those long painted nails, it makes me think twice about what I am suppose to do and where I am putting my hands.

I use polish remover on them and it takes the polish right off as well as any stray point that may have gotton on them and then wash my hands with warm soap and water, dry the nails carefully and reapply polish based on my next venture. If I am going out shopping for building materials, I use a neutral color but if I am going out - out then I use whatever color matches my mood, clothing, destination, etc. I also tend to shape and file them to a rounded edge as opposed to the flat "french cut" look which I personally don't care for.

My nails are weird as I think I could remove deck screws with my thumb nails but my finger nails are akin to onion skin and tear very easily.

One girl's journey.

I tried them on my first outing out. They were medium length, but it made things much more difficult as I wasn't used to them. It made trying on shoes and clothes more difficult. That being said, I liked the look of them because they made my fingers look longer and thinner so I'll probably try again in the future.

I had acryllics put on for a week long outing with my wife 3-1/2 years ago, and never have gone back to normal nails. About 2 years ago I witched to GEL--more natural looking and the polish comes off easier. If I am going on an outing, I'll let them get longer, but usually wear them just a bit longer than most men---I work as a professional (non-labor) environment, and they just look manicured. In fact, I have gotten many compliments on them in male mode. Twice though when I was going on a week or 10 day vacation fem, I had them put on longer ones -- that took a little getting used to, although I enjoyed it a lot! If I could I would leave them longer all the time.

In fem mode I usually do color, but sometimes go french--depends on my mood and whereI may be going etc. And it gives me a buily in reason to go out femme every 2-3 weeks, even if life gets busy. The nail salon only knows me as Missy -- and its also fun to girl talk with the other regulars...although they are not as talkative as they are at the hair salon.

Having my nails done always makes me feel good, and looking down and seeing them colored does too!

I'm going to sidetrack this post a bit. What brand do you ladies find are best for us? I think we tend to have wider and flatter nails so a lot of those packages out there aren't well designed for male nails. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi ladies! I like the brand "kiss"press on as they also have wide flat nails and I can't keep them on all the time. If I have the time I like to put them on from scratch; attach, glue shape and color them. I love nails medium or long, french or rounded-depending on what I am doing. Nails can get a little expensive for a one time use. The press on nails will stay on for a day. When you take them off the glue can be rubbed off the back and they can be re-applied. I am experimenting with different glues.

I have worn acrylics for about a year now. I prefer a length of about 1/8 inch, as any longer seriously hampers my typing on a keyboard, resulting in misstruck keys. I usually prefer the French tips style, but this can be painted over and the color removed for special occasions. I have very weak natural nails, and use of a keyboard causes them to split. and break, This was the reason for going to the acrylics. I have them filled and trimmed as the natural nail grows out, and have them replaced with a new set when the natural nail equals the length of the acrylic, or the white tip becomes too narrow. I find that the protection of the acrylic is very useful. and the strength and durability allows me to do many things that would be difficult without them. The drawback can be a type of fungus growing between the natural nail and the acrylic, so it is important to be sure your salon is clean and the manicurist is knowedgable about such conditions.

I also have monthly pedicures. I have type II diabetes, and keeping the feet healthy is important. When the technician cuts and trims the nails, I have no problems with nails trying to become ingrown or sore. Besides, I like looking at my cheerfully colored toe nails!! :)

I havent really done my nails for so long. I guess its just more convenient at the moment not to. I will let them get long if theres something special in mind but otherwise...

I type a lot and handle computer equipment so itll just be a neverending chip on the nail polish i guess.

When I do I use black.

I occasionally wear fake nails. My regular nails are often broken and of various lengths, so when I really want to go femme, it's fakes. I keep them short, about an eighth of an inch past my finger tips. Even with them that short, I have trouble doing fine finger action, such as buttoning clothes and using cell phone buttons. I don't know how women can do things like that with nails any longer. It must be an art or a skill that comes from constant practice.

I have to wear press on nails as my real fingernail split and crack when I try to grow them out. I enjoy fileing and trying to shape my nails but kind of hard to do when they are so short. :(

I've seen Virginia's nails, and I can assure you, they are absolutely magnificent. I'm very jealous.

It's been decades since I last wore nails. I keep thinking the next time my SO goes out of town, I will again, but something always breaks up my contiguous time alone, so it never seems worth all the effort and expense.

Hugs,

I'm in the process of growing my real-sies back out again, and I've noticed myself adjusting to their length gradually, while typing and whatnot. It's almost subconscious how it happens.

Some years ago even before I came out, I got acrylic nails. I have a nail condition where the nail grows ridges that will split down to the wick. As result, I end up peeling off the nail and it would look bad and sometimes bleed. Since I got my first set of acrylics, I have never had a bad nail problem. I do keep them polished in a light Pink color. I have gotten many very nice comments from other GG's about how nice my nails look all the time.
When I am outside doing chores, I will wear work gloves that protect my hands and my nails. I really hate when I chip a nail or mess up my polish. LOL
