Hi!

I still can't believe I did this. I read the post about pierced ears a while ago and kind of thought about it. I've never really considered having my ears pierced before. I've known some men who had their ears pierced later in life and it always seemed kind of silly to me. I guess I'm one of them now.

I thought about it a lot... and then I thought about it more. What will people think? What if it makes me look too feminine? How will I keep people from finding out? And probably a dozen other similar thoughts. Finally, I decided I had to live my life and not worry about what other people think.

I think that I am not going to go out of my way to flaunt my earrings at work which means I'll be wearing my hair down for the next several weeks. If someone sees them and asks about them, I suppose I'll just tell them I was thinking about it for a while and decided to do it. That's the truth.

Well, as soon as I can change them out I guess I'll get to go earring shopping.

Good for you, my husband got his both pierced last month,my gift for our 30th anniversary and really the response has been good. The only negative was our oldest son, but we kinda knew that would happen.

Here is a response for you- this comes from my husbands boss!

'You know Harrison Ford has earing just like that'..... too bad we don't have his bank account.
You will be surprised that no one really cares after the inital time they notice.

I remember mulling over getting mine peirced. I owned my own company, lived in Wyoming, and was very apprehensive about how I would be treated. However, I also used to dream about how great it would be to see and feel earrings on both sides of my face.

In the end it was great, not really a problem at all, that was 6 years ago.

Thank you all for your support! I couldn't believe I was doing this but then it was done.

I was really nervous about this. I have heard that the 'gun' is not very sterile and can cause infections. Now I think that is just propaganda the piercing community spreads so people come to them. I did consider going to a real "piercer" but they don't pierce with post earrings and the guage they use is larger than post earrings. I do tend to like the captive bead ring look though.

It turns out that where I went the earrings are in sterile containers. They basically snap the earring and part of the container into the gun and pierce your ear. It really wasn't any more than a pinch. I do not believe the stories I have been told about this any more. I think if people get infections from having their ears pierced with the gun, they must not be following the aftercare. (Wash earrings and ears twice a day and rotate earrings.)

I thank you all for being here for me. I hope those of you who want to take this step but have been reluctant find the inner strength to do what your heart tells you is right for you.

In the end, we can either recall how we lived our lives on our terms or how we lived our lives on someone else's terms. I think I would prefer the first.

If you ever feel awkward about having both ears pierced, just remember that so many pro basketball players today have both ears pierced and no one says a thing.

It's been a week since I had my ears pierced. I thought I would briefly (yeah, that's likely to happen,) post to let everyone know how it's going.

I was kind of concerned about going in to work with earrings ablazing, so I decided to wear my hair down all week. I guess that's one advantange of having long hair. Anyway, Monday came and went without comment. Tuesday afternoon we had a firedrill and while we were outside a co-worker asked in a matter-of-fact way "When did you get the earring?" I responded by simply saying "Over the weekend." Another co-worker who was sitting right there commented "I don't see what the big deal is. Men in Africa have been piercing their ears for thousands of years."

Thursday morning a good friend noticed and said "I thought you had pierced your ears. Did you do that down in Sint Maarten?" I thought she would surely have some negative comment to make but she didn't.

So, after the first week there were zero negative comments and only three people who observed (or at least commented) about the earrings.

This morning I met with my best friend to go see HMS Pinafore. While we were at lunch she noticed (after being together for about 1.5 hours.) She moved my hair out of the way and asked when I got it done. I responded last Saturday. She said "It's been a week! No email, no telephone call, no nothing?" I explained that I wanted to see how long it would take her to notice. If there is some change in the way I look, she will notice it more quickly than anyone.

The only negative experience I have had so far is this. I started taking ballet classes and the instructor invited me to attend the Pas de Deux class (that's where the men dance with the women and lift them.) While I was lifting my partner on my shoulder I snagged the earring on her leotard. It did bleed a little but not too bad. I guess I should cover the earrings with tape next week.

So that's it. Pretty much a non issue. The reason I posted this is to let everyone who is hesitating because of negative comments know that most people are either not that observant or really don't care if you have peirced ears.

Well I just have not had it done, but when I see some of the beautiful earrings that are available for pierced ears, well it probably won't be long in comming.

I really can't stress enough how important your thread is. I think for CD'rs this is one of the biggest steps some of us will take.

I know your follow up was just as important as the post you did it.

OUCH about the leotard though.... I changed my mind.. I'm not doing it now. Kidding!!!
