Going out wearing nail polish

Today me'n'Cathy(SO) are out with the lads to watch our local soccer team play, a regular thing for us.
I'd just removed last night's cute lilac sparkly nail polish and Cathy said "oh poor you, you've got to take off your nail polish for the footy". We had a chat about how years ago (when I didn't consider myself to be a crossdresser) I would often be out in public wearing nail polish, usually silver or black, with long dangly earrings, always silver and one or two in left ear only. Didn't think twice about it then, even wore nail polish and earrings to work (office job).
Nowadays though, when I proudly say "I am a crossdresser" (admittedly from right at the back of the closet

), I'm more than a little nervous about being seen in public wearing nail polish. Seems a bit silly to be honest.
So today I will be wearing nail polish to the match (and pubs afterwards, of course). Cathy is going to wear nail polish too. This gives me a two stage get-out - 1. today's game is FA Cup first qualifying round, traditionally a time when our teams fans wear "lucky" things ... lucky pants, lucky socks, lucky baseball hats etc. Today I'm wearing lucky nail polish (sparkly golden brown). 2. If pressed me'n'Cath had a drunken nail polish party yesterday ... and both decided to wear it to the match for luck.
Of course if we win I'll simply
have to wear polish to the next game. If we lose then today's was simply the wrong colour and I'll have to try another colour at the next match ... the cute sparkly lilac springs to mind.
One small step for Amandakind ...

I know what you mean, it's like if someone asked you to go down the shop to buy them some makeup you wouldn't be too bothered but if you go in for yourself it feels totally different but it isn't really. So I guess best thing is to say in your head I'm buying this for someone else, or with the nails just think like ya did before
How did the nails go then?

Hope they won, if they drew maybe you need to go watch them dressed up for them to win lol

Great post Mandy.

I am smiling as much as those little smileys are showing.
I love and thank God for Amandakind!

Also a big hurrah for Cathy(SO) too!

That was a fun day!
It took three hours but finally
one of the lads (A) noticed and casually tagged onto a conversation about the match "oh, and Mr X, you appear to be wearing nail polish" with a grin on his face. Yeah, my lucky FA Cup nail polish! If anyone else noticed they didn't mention it.
Then we went off to our favourite bar to meet A's wife L When L arrived at the bar she noticed my nails even before she sat down at our table! Girls 1 Boys 0, I think. "Hmm, nice colour. It suits you". Wow! Conversation turned to how I used to wear nail polish and earrings years ago, then L asked if my chest was still shaved (Cath had leaked this little titbit 3 weeks ago - she's a menace after a couple of glasses of wine

). "No, I don't shave any more, I bought an epilator. It's great, I've done my legs as well."
So then I had to roll up my trouser leg so L could see, and stroke, my nice smooth leg. This prompted A to roll up his trouser leg to be stroked. Hilarious - in a busy pub in a small town in south east England sit two guys having their bared legs (one smooth, the other hairy) stroked by a young woman kneeling beside their table.
Oh yes, and our team won the football match.

Hi Mandy,
I'm getting to the point where even in drab I'll leave my nailpolish on from the night before when I go to the corner store. They know all about Lorna at my local gas station & CVS so it's pretty much a non-event when I go down there with painted nails.

I woke early (4am) and did my nails (Maybelline's lilac lick) , then went back to bed. Got up, dressed up, and read some posts and watched a little television.
Woke my wife up so she could go to the store (Sam's Club), and changed.
While she was at the store she called wanting me to come pick up some things so she could do something else before heading home.
Turns out I had to go into the store. I've been out with nails done before, and have come to the point that I could care less if anyone disapproved. Anyway, I had to use my credit card for a purchase my wife wanted, so that meant my nails were on display at the check out counter. My wife stood to the side watching the clerk's reaction. The clerk didn't make any mention of it but you could tell she was taken back.
A guy behind me in line kept moving so he could get a better look, but said nothing either.
My wife said later that I had freaked several people out.
It was fun.

You girls just amaze me I have been in the closet so long I think I forgot there was a door out of it. I have been hiding and it's taken everything I have just to do the little outings I have done. You girls ae running to the store and the gas station with nails on, I get fidgety just thinking about it. Will I ever be able to do what you girls seem to do evey day??? Questions, I got a million of 'em.....Keep doin it , it may rub off on me....kristen

Well done, Amanda.
It's good that you made the effort and things worked out.
I was in my local tonight (Yorkshire) wearing nail polish and just got comments like "What colour have you got on tonight?" The locals now just accept it even though it was difficult at first.
Stick at it and we'll push the boundaries back.
Love

I've been wearing clear polish for some time, but it's been a couple of years since I really wore colored polish in drab. I always used to end up in the company of the most "macho" guys, and they'd always give me a hard time, so I stopped. I used to wear a lot of metallics. My favorites were Sally Hansen Titanium and Platinum Frost. Sometimes I'd go a copper-colored frost, but I've forgotten the manufacturer, and I've always looked better in white metals, anyway.

Hi girls, thanks for the comments.
Today is cute sparkly lilac polish day. One postman, didn't notice. One guy reading our gas and electricity meters, didn't notice. One door-to-door salesman, didn't notice. One trip to corner shop, woman who serves me notices and smiles but doesn't say anything.
As I'm leaving the shop she calls me back - heart skips a beat - but only because she thinks I gave her too much money for the newspaper. "Thanks, but it's The Independent not The Times" and smiles all round.

Update:
What a wonderful quirk of fate - every soccer match I have attended wearing "lucky" nail polish our team has won!
That's four matches so far - one in the league, two FA Cup qualifying and one FA Trophy. This Saturday is FA Cup 3rd qualifying round and I have been warned that if I don't wear the lucky polish to that match and our team loses the defeat will be
my fault

So tomorrow I will have to buy more Rimmel 60 Seconds colour 621 as my current lot is a bit old and has gone a bit thick and 'gloopy'. (Sparkly lilac is for league games only).
Apart from the footy I've also worn polish to the pub, shopping, to a Thai restaurant and ordinary doing-nothing-special days. Though I have removed it when attending doctors appointments.
Generally people either don't notice, or just don't care. I have had a few people ask me "why?" but most seem happy to accept my reply "because I like it" ... though if pressed I use the little white lie that it started as a "lucky thing to do for footy matches".

Best be careful Amanda, if they loose because you wore the wrong polish thay may make you do something awful, like wear a dress
