My cat knows?! or not!?

Post by Virginia »

Today, after I dressed and started doing my house cleaning in preparation for my up coming support group meeting here on Saturday, I evidently woke up my cat. Now she is ( best guess) 12 -13 years old and she is definitely not a people cat, when any stranger comes around she disappears. Well she took one look at me, short black skirt, creme colored, cable knit, turtle neck sweater, heels and make-up and she took off. Now she has seen me dressed before, but I did look good this morning. I don't know if she did not recognize me. I hope that is it!!! =D> =D> =D> ! If Virginia can fool that cat she must be doing it better and better.
How do your pets react to you when you dress???

The cat could care less.

Our dog, however was surprised when she first saw me dressed completely, wig and all.

However, she got over it quickly when I spoke to her.

She's a pretty smart dog. She can usually tell by how I'm dressed whether or not I'm going out the door.

If it's a weekend morning, and I put on a certain pair of shoes (drab), she thinks I'm going to the dump, and she gets all anxious to go for a ride too.

If I put on those same pair shoes at any other time, no reaction.

Our 2 cats, littermates that are now almost 7 years old, don't seem to care what I'm wearing.

When I was a kids I used to think if the cats could talk............but their reactions never changed.

On the other hand when my wife and I had cats in adult life we noticed that they reacted to all sorts of things, some obvious and some very subtle. Scratching the suitcase when we were packed to leave for a few days was the most obvious one. My guess is that the cat is not neccesarily reacting to the clothes as to your energy. Or if it is the clothes most likely the smell of the clothes. Or the sound that you make when you walk in them.

Animals ae real sensitive to all sorts of stuff. Lion tamers for example will not have anything to drink before performing because even one glass of wine several hours earlier can subtly alter their body language enough to make the lions wonder what is up and maybe it is time to challenge the lion tamer in an effort to impress one of the other lions.

Andrea,
Sorry I could not pass this up! A "pickled lion tamer?"
Maybe the lion perceives marinated meat on the hoof?
Sorry 'bout that.

Great topic Virginia! :)

My dogs (over the years) were like what Donna described. They were curious at first, but when I said it's me the tails started wagging and voila, we were instant best friends again.

Cats.. well, I've never had those before.

Hey Sis,

Here is something to work on. Now the trick is to get Your pet virus as scared of Virginia as your cat.

Gosh ain't I just really with it so early in the day? Kind of scares me really. :)

My cats never appeared to notice any difference when I was dressed, until I recently bought a wig. They actually looked surprised and did a double-take. A few seconds later, though, they seemed to be over it, and treated me like normal. Maybe I'm anthropomophizing, but that's how it seemed.

One great thing about dogs and cats is that they accept us as we are, even if we are in a dress! Why can’t more people be like dogs and cats?

Hi Darlene,

I couldn't agree with you more! :) I have often thought the same thing when I'm dressed and playing with my doggy. :)

cat

One of our cats does not seem to care how i am dressed. But she will go to anyone just to get some attention.

Our second cat we have recently taken in and does not think much of adult males so much that she runs from me when I enter a room. When I was dressed she would come up to me, until i spoke that is. Then she was gone.
