one of the other threads got me thinking. I have read here that crossdressers are somewhat over represented among the hobbys of model railroading and ham radio. I wonder if we might be over represented among star trek fans as well.

More to the point, if anyone here has gone to a star trek conventions, I wonder if much crossdressing takes place there. For example guys who like Klingons portraying themselves and Be'lanna Torres rather than as Worf? Seems like a fun idea.

Me either but I did go to a Star Trek convention once.
I was young and didn't know any better.

I've never been to one either but I figure they aren't much different than things like SCA or Viking festivals-just people indulging themselves in some sort of fantasy.

Well, having just survived "Purgatory" with the theme of "aliens and outer space". I can say that, well, it was a bit removed from Star Trek, it fact it was, well . . . I will post my interpretations in a separate thread!

Big star Trek fan here but never dressed (as a character) at a ST convention. I did go to a Dr Who convention as Tegan in her lilac flight attendant outfit some years ago.

OH OH OH.....BIG Startrek Fan. Got Trek stuff all over the house. Half the xmas tree usually has only Trek ornimates. LOL Even got a complete outfit in the closet. Second genration.

Where did that information originate?
Im in trouble.....I like all 3. Does that make me a target?

Hello all: There is definitely a lot of "cross over" between the TG community and the science fiction/fantasy/comix community. I have run across several "fans" just in the D.C. area support group Transgender Education Association.
Model railroading? I know of at least one (not in TGEA); and I've run into several other streetcar fans in the general TG community.
At Dragon Con in 2001 (Atlanta, GA) I appeared as the "cheerleader" for 3 out of the 5 days I attended. There were several other
"cheerleaders" (genetic female and not). There was one other person cross dressed m to f that I ran across-- there may have been others. DRAGON CON has a reputation of being pretty open ended regarding gender expression.
(I now even have a cheerleader outfit in the Sunnydale High School ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") colors. Didn't have that when I attended DRAGON CON, unfortunately).

I am aware of a phenomenon in the gaming/anime subsection of "fandom" called "cosplay" where folks dress as "anime"/"gaming" characters. Cross dressing does occur at their events. There was an article about this in LADYLIKE a few years ago, I believe.
I have not attended a STAR TREK convention in years, but do know of at least one big time STAR TREK fan in TGEA. She wore a TREK uniform to a Halloween party at least once.
By the way, some of you might be interested in knowing that GAYLAXICON, the GLBT science fiction convention, will take place in the Washington, D.C. area next year.
I am not surprised that there is a large cross over between the SF/fantasy/comix community and the TG community. Both groups have a strong awareness of being apart froim conventional society, and the individuals involved tend to be intelligent and creative.
How many of you reading this are also sf, fantasy, and/or comix fans? Streetcar buffs? Railroad/model railroading enthusiasts? MONTY PYTHON fans? Cheerleaders??

Just to add to the crowd - I've been a Trek follower from the beginning, altho never attended any conventions. I was lucky enough to have met Rick Berman, who brilliantly took over Rodenberry's creation. Also a Sci-fi addict from way way back in the old glory days of "Wonder Stories" and Hugo Gernsback (ever heard of him?).

I am also a radio ham, altho I had to give it up when I moved into a condo. Used to have a 60' tower and chatted all over the world.

I was delighted, when I joined this forum almost a year ago, to find CD'rs are such a brainy bunch.

Well I have to admit, I am also a Ham Radio Operator and a N-Scale Model Railroader and a Trekie. So guess I qualify for all three. LOL

BTW, Field Day is coming up later this month. If you hear either W5M or WJ5J that will be our field day station.

Never did ham radio but have a marine FM licence for the SO's boat.
Model Railroads are beyond cool, but take too much work and take too much time away from playing with my simple "train set" on sheet of plywood thats painted green.

Their is a guy not far from here that opens his basement up for tours in the summer and his entire 4000 sq foot basement is one huge HO landscape. and I believe he has over 100 tracks all controlled by PC software.

I am a huge Star Trek fan. Pretty much always have been. Now when I say huge, I am not one of those who dress up as a Kingon and go to conventions. I just really like most of the series.

Of course I love the original Star Trek, but also really like Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine, in that order. Enterprise was pretty lame, I can see why it got canceled. The movies were also good, with Wrath of Kuan being my favorite.

I would just like to say that over the years, I have also noticed a disproportionate number of transgender people seem to enjoy Star Trek and have mentioned to others that strange side effect.

I am a ham radio nut for 47 years now. I love watching the Star Trek re-runs and watch SciFi, but I never became a full-blown Trekkie who went to the conventions. However, at an Apple Macintosh trade show in San Francisco, Counselor Deanna Troy and Wesley Crusher were there doing autographs --- which I did get. That was fun ...
