Hi Danielle,

I do so look forward to hearing the results of your treatments. I have, since it first started growing, thought of waking in the morning with no beard and not having to shave every morning. I would love to have my facial hair gone and have a nice smooth pallet to make up.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

Yes girls I am still very excited about the "light" treatment for my facial hair. I have been taking my usual vitamin concoction every day.

3 softgels of vitamin E.... 400i.u. each
3 regular vitamin C.......... 500mg each
1 regular Sentury Vite - tablet (multivitamin)(over 50+)
1 regular magnesium tablet ....400mg (keeps heart burn away)
1 per week... Beta Carotene - Vit. A.... 25,000 i.u.
1 calcium citrate tablet ... 350mg...
------------------------------------------------------------------
I also use the Walmart "Equate" brand of "Advanced Skin Therapy Lotion" every day, top to bottom after my morning shower. This routine has made a very obvious and dramatic impact on improving my skins health and elesticity. It will not bring back the collagen, but it does help my skin stay moistureized during the day. I have noticed over the period of a year, a more feminine feel to my skin after shaving. It is working for me!
Oh yes, I also spray a body spray, "peach" Caress.

When I go to clients offices, medical, realestate etc., I always get compliments from the female staff on both my presence and my non-visual aroma. They get close to me!!! Really close!! So that tells me I am on the right track. It is that or those girls are really in need of attention, ha ha LOL.

:) :) :) :)

Sunday night girls!

Tuesday afternoon this week is blast-off day at 2:00pm est.

I am going for the "baby face" look. You know, the pre-teen, pre-hormone look. When boys and girls look pretty much the same.
:) :) :) :)

Okay so I will be a bitmore realistic! Age 55 and counting, yikes! What the H... happened! #-o #-o #-o ....

So I will just be satisfied if I look remotely better. After all, I have seen plenty of menopausal (gg) women with 5-o'clock shadow (spouse) these days. I just really want to get off the shaving wagon. My face has had enough. Been there, done that, time for a change!
T U E S D A Y......Blast off, sand off, kick off.... :) :) :) ........!
Hugs

Hi Ya Girls:

Yes I am on schedule and on track for today at 2:00pm...

I have been doing my homework the past week to better understand the principles behind the spectral light principles of physics. I spent several years in a "Microwave Technology" and 'Black Light" laboratory at Kennedy Space Center so I am not new to the physics or principles of this technology. We knew in 1991 not to stand in front of our "ruby laser" for fear of skin and eye damage. Testing of the eyes was done every year as a mandatory health check-up.

No I will not bore you with the details, need less to say, the "lamp" that is used is the same lamp type used in laser technology. The difference is in laser, the light is pulsed through monochromatic material such as "Ruby" then the results are redirected through a micro-hole in a mirror and directed onto the skin.

The lamp used by itself, does not penetrate as deeply, rather it is like a flash tube and covers the facial surface to a minimum depth as the light is absorbed by dark material, hair, mole, birthmark, etc. Anything with the "melanin" substance in it. So the darker the hair the better, and the lighter your skin the better for this technology. The lighter areas repel the light like a mirror and reflect it back into the system to be used again. Remember we are talking about the "speed of light." This method conserves energy and redirects the available and recaptured energy back into the "melanin" subjects.

The duration of the pulse can be controlled by the operator in milliseconds, (1/1000th of a second). So she/he with experience and time can set the system to optimum effect for your type of skin and other factors. I obviously want maximum effect with minimum sessions. The Doctor would like to see maximum sessions, hmm, I guess that is called business. So I am going to ask questions and get answers as I go and will pass along what I think is relevent. The experience or lack of, is very important in the money equation of this medical service. How much energy your skin can be exposed to will determine the effectiveness and the amount of sessions that it will take to rid yourself of the hair. Also growth and re-growth, parameters play an important role.

Here we go girls....................

REPORT

# 1

Palomar "Medilux" Pulsed-Light System

http://www.palmed.com/laser_medilux.html

The cited site is the Palomar technology site and adequately describes the equipment and several different adapters along with their physical specifications including power output for each.

I arrived on time, 30 minutes early, for my appointment. At 2:00pm I was greeted by my nursing specialist, Donna, and taken to a very nice treatment room. Take off glasses and any necklaces. Rolled shirt collar down to expose the neck line. The Doctor entered the room with introductions and examined my skin type and facial hair. He was pleased to see how dark the hair was and I have a type II - skin with a lite tan. I have been staying out of the sun as much as possible and using a SPF-50 cream when ever I work in the yard.

The only pre-treatment was to put a cooling jell on my face in the areas of treatment. The specialist began on one side of the face by placing the hand instrument tightly up against the skin and then - OUCH - "that was me" as the system fired the pulse. Also, you wear protective eye-wear that blocks the light frequency from the unit when it fires off. There is some glow even with my eyes closed, it is so intense that you see a little reddish-white flash.

The Doctor chose to use the "LUX-Y" handle this first treatment. A larger surface area, and half the possible power = 20jules. I shaved via electric razor at 6:00am and did not shave again before treatment. I could have shaved to reduce the amount of hair exposed and it would not have changed the effectiveness of the treatment. The slight smell of burnt hair was in the air after about 10 pulses.

There is a feeling of intense heat but for those that have been shaving for years, the level of heat was not too high. It will "sting" and you will say "OUCH", each time most likely. It is sudden and that is just a normal response.

The area treated will be redden and feel tingly for as long as 4 hours afterwards. I used fresh aloe from an aloe plant that I have growing at home. I took a 4 inch by 2 inch leaf with me after removing the spines, washing the leaf and slicing the leaf open, I placed it into zip-lock bag and took it with me to the Doctor's. I used this on my face during the drive home which is about 25 minutes. I noticed immediate a burning sensitivity to the direct sun. Once in the car, I was okay and it resolved itself.

The entire procedure took about 45 minutes from beginning to end. My face at 6:00pm looks like any other time and I still have the same facial hair look as in the sample photos I provided before this initial treatment. My next treatment is June 29th at 2:30pm. By that time, some hair should have fallen out. I will continue to shave each day as instructed. The next treatment is designed to go after newer hairs and old ones that have been missed.

The Doctor has ordered the LUX-R unit I believe and will have it on time for my next appointment. This unit handle is less power, 15jules with the same size working area as the "Lux -Y" 16mm x 46mm. Remember, the light that strikes white areas is bounced back into the head to be redistributed during the pulse so as to improve on the intensity of the power source. It is like using a halogen head lamp vs. the older style. The light is focused more and you get a brighter beam. So to, the "flash-lamp" captures stray light by design of the head and redistributes the power into the work area.

I have not had electrolysis so I can only imagine that this is like that "on steroids!" You are doing a large area and that counts for many 100's of little hairs. Everyone is very upbeat and optimistic about me going through this with them. I took a small 4x6 40 picture, album book with me to share with my treatment nurse of my best outfits. Needless to say she wanted to know where I got such a great fashion sense from and color coordination. She said never mind how feminine or great I look, where did I get those clothes, and accessories, ha ha LOL. She just turned 50 and looks very nice and about 40. She has had treatments herself for skin rejuvenation etc.

I will be talking my spouse for treatment after this next treatment if we both are satisfied with the results at that time. She will be a piece of cake compared to this extreme with [soft as down] hairs around the lip and sides. Simple stuff!

Okay, so there are bound to be questions. Let's have a show of hands!

Hugs

Day 1: Post treatment no 1:

Soft irritation about the jaw line and the throat above Adam's Ap. Upper lip mildly sore and sides of mouth okay. Chin=mild soreness. No more than if I shaved very very close for 3 days in a row, by using backward strokes. Irritation is similar.

After shaving via Norelco dry model, looks like I have small black measels on the chin area and lip. Small spots like red freckles on the neck, perhaps 8 - 10. This could be skin cell "heat" damage. Should clear in 5 days or less.

No obvious appearance improvement. Darker right now with the folicles darkened by the intense light treatment. Doctor expects to see very good improvement by next appointment. Doctor knows I am in T* family. Asked if this was going to be "complicated" for me during the treatment period. I of course replied no more complicated than any other day.
:) :)

I will deposit a daily report for the first week. Thereafter, occassional reports as any obvious changes ocurr.

No need for a picture right now. Things just look the same as can be expected or perhaps a little darker shadow for now.

Hugs

Danielle,
Thanks Hon, for the information. If I understand , the treated hair does not immediately fall out, it takes a week or two?
This is exciting I look forward to additional information about your adventure.
Love,
Deborah

For those that might be interested, the treated areas are still tender at the end of this first day. No obvious sensitivity to indirect sunlight, but if I stand in the hot Florida sun, I feel it imediately. The chin area and upper lip feel bumpy. My skin is fairly smooth otherwise so I am sure it is directly related to the treatment. The Jaw line and just under the chin and neck are the same with a small bumpy feeling. When I shave with a 3-blade razor I use body lotion instead of shaving cream. In the morning I will shave with the Norelco dry shaver and in the evening I shave with the 3-blade and lotion before bedtime.

Skin now remains darker around the treated areas. This is all normal reaction so far to the first treatment. The spouse is comfortable with this so far and wants to have it done if all turns out as I hope. The Doctor gets a lot of requests for "under arms" by women (gg) patients. Now that has got to really sting!!!

In the morning girls we shall see the light,
I will smile in the mirror and my face will
be shiny and just right! :) :) :)

Yikes! My face fell off! Just kidding girls!

Report # 2 - Post Day 2 - 8:30AM

Treated area remains a little darker than the rest. Tenderness is still there but less than yesterday. I have refrained from using aloe jell since many people do not have access to the plants, I want to see how they might do without it. At night, I put on liquid vitamin E, available at most stores with vitamins, and a moderate moisturizer, Wal-Mart's Equate brand, "Advanced Skin Therapy Lotion."

In the morning my face is moisturized, my eye area looks refreshed and not droopy. So I do this everynight no matter what other treatment I am doing.

So things are on track for now. I shaved with the Norelco Dry shaver and it covers somewhat with just a coat of Max Factor "Pan-Stick" and the usual mix of red lipstick to create the right skin tone for this brunette (leaning to brown) haired girl. A little lipstick on a sponge and dabbed onto the checks, then a lite powder to set everything. Ready set go..............

So I would not go in public right now since the pores are still puffy in the treated area and they look like little bumps in the makeup. I could "slathere" it on and cover it, but remember girls, this area is rather sensitive so I would go lite on any makeup so as not to infect the skin and cause more irriatation.

Satisfied with the after effects so far. I will go to a client by 10:00am and work the day.

This will be short, honest.

This is the 2nd night after the 1st treatment:

Sensitivity is now gone. Bumpyness is still there. Looking closely each pore looks like a small bump. Very pronounced. Hair is of course still doing it's thing and is darker than normal.

Some thought that you get zapped and then the hair is gone. It takes time for this process to work. Laser or pulsed light (with out the laser tube) works pretty much over time. About 30 days is what they expect for hair to start leaving the treated area, Deborah.

Things are on track and I am still pleased with the lack of major trauma for the most part. No obvious or apparent scaring so far. A couple of burn spots on the neck. They will take care of what time will not the Doctor said. This medical group has not done the "full Monty" before on a male so there is a bit of experimentation to what we are doing at this level. Each person varies so I cannot complain about that. The Doctor will examine the progress at the next visit and adjust accordingly.

I am hoping to get the most bang for my buck as it were. Many Doctors treat you by the square inch per treatment of $50.00usd each time. So I think I am getting a better than reasonable deal for now at $1100.00 for the whole face and neck with 3 treatments. It took about 30 "zaps" to cover the treatment area. If I was paying $50.00 per sq inch, yikes, that would be $1500.00 for just the one treatment. Shop around before committing to this or any laser procedure. They make it difficult by having you fill out papers like in a job interview, it is tedious and time consumming but there are web sites that make it a little easier to compare. That's "medical marketing."
