In a way it's kind of funny because the most important things I learned here, had nothing to do with crossdressing.
I think the most important things I have learned here are self acceptance and that I am not alone.

Here's my shot at it:

1. I used to think society would accept me as normal.

2. I used to think that all law enforcement officers were actively trying to protect the citizen instead of meeting their ticket quota.

3. I used to think that people who got good grades in school were rewarded. (Didn't get a penny for scholarships, even though I won half a dozen gold medals at math/science tournaments though the sweat of my brow.)

4.I used to think that politicians were there to do something useful, not stop people from doing it.

5. I used to believe that a man was entitled to the sweat of his brow, not some supervisor somewhere.

6. I used to believe the world ran on truth (boy oh boy, was I wrong).

7. I used to believe that "family" was an unbreakable bond, even if there were hard times. (Again, I can't start to define how delusionnal this was.)

8. I used to think there was someone out there who'd help me. (Mirrors don't count.)

9. I used to think love was a genuine emotion, not just a product or a hormonal reaction that people use to manipulate other people.

10. I used to think I was all alone, but then I found myself.

11. I used to think that kind loving people had ulterior motives, but then i realised that the very few who did, didn't.

12. I used to think I could find fairytale love.

13. I used to think I could never be happy.

14. I used to think sexual nonconformism was disgusting. (Hurray for school propaganda starting in 1st grade!)

15. I used to think rich people were just hardworking.

16. I used to think that I could never be lovely and sweet.

17. I used to think I was safe from smoking if I didn't smoke even tho my friends did. (Second hand smoke gave me a lung infection, yay... At least it forced my family to stop.)

18. I used to think Canadians would always be the good guys.

19. I used to think everything was justified, and that I just didn't know enough about something if I thought otherwise.

20. I used to think I could hold myself in...
''We are strong, yet we don't belong. Born in this world as it all falls apart.''

Hi girls,

Azurielle,

Nice list, thanks for taking the time to post. I see many common things in our lists.

Amelie,

I have a fairytale romance with Raven and I also didn't think that could ever happen. But it did. Four and a half years later and it's still a love affair.

Love always,
Elizabeth

1 I used to think that if you really didn't want me to take whatever it was I took from you that you would have been more careful, and thus I was not really stealing from you.

2 I used to think that if we could communicate properly you would realize I was right.
2a I used to think I was right.

3 I used to think that I was either better than or not as good as everyone else.

4 I used to think that if noone knew about it then it didn't happen, or that it wasn't true.

5 I used to think that as long as I aknowledged to myself that I was lying it didn't count because after all I knew better.

6 I used to think that if I did something wrong or illegal and worried about it that the problem was that I worried too much.

7 I used to think that if I didn't beat my wife in front of the children that I was the perfect father and husband.
7a I used to think that I would not have any trouble communicating or relating or anything else with my children when they became teenagers.

8 I used to think what most people told me about most things were true.

9 I used to think that since I couldn't even figure out what I did to make my parents mad how in the world could I figure out and repent for all the things I did to disappoint God, who in His infiniteness probably had an infintite capacity to be disappointed in me.

10 I used to think that if everyone was like me that the world would be a vastly better place.

11 I used to think I would never get old. Sometimes I used to think it was because I wouldn't live that long, other times that an exception would be made for me and that I would remain young till I was 90.

12 I used to believe that everything I believed was true.

Hi Amelie ,

Most of my childhood was filled with the dream of finding a fairytale love , as I grew into adulthood with the opposite sex totally rejecting me , I found myself as far down the list as possible for any chance of reality.
Fairytale romance is something experienced by a select few , finding your soulmate amongst the world population is not an easy task.

These are the ones I can most relate to, except rather than "still believe" I would say "come to believe".

I can very much relate to this part. It makes me think of that Don Hensley song with the words "the more I know, the less I understand". It turns out that the only things I can be right about, are what's right for me.

Absaroka,

#9 - "Wow!" that one probably has Jerry Falwell spinning in his grave and it would serve (if I may co-op my SO's terminology) to be a "clue-by-four" up side the head of a lot of these "bible-thumpers" and others of their ilk.

I will also have to say: "I used to always think I was right -- well damn, I still am!" :P sorry, I could not resist that!

Love,

I used to think I was stupid or dumb, but then I was given an IQ test and did pretty well. Then I started giving myself credit for all the different things I did know that the "Smart" people didn't have a clue about.

I used to thing that all teachers were smart, Then I started going to parent /teacher conferences
Don't blame me, I voted for Gov Palin

Hi Ladies
I'll give this a shot.

1. I used to think that our government was honest.

2. I used to think that my representatives in Washington,Joe Lieberman and Chris Dodd worked for me.

3. I used to think wealth and intelligence go hand in hand.

4. I used to think that telling the truth will set you free.

5. I used to think that there was a God.

6. I used to think that my wife loved me.

7. I used to think that all people had the best intentions.

8. I used to think that people would figure out that we're all one race. The human race.

9. I used to think that friends were for life.

10. I used to think like a fool.

Jeannie, honey as always you come through like a champ!!!! =D>

You do remember the definitions of an acquantance and a friend?

An acquaintance will come to the jail to bail you out!

A friend will be sitting in the cell with you saying, "damn, that was fun!"

If you have a number of "friends" that you can count on more than one finger, you are indeed a fortunate person.

I used to believe in fairytales.

I used to believe I wanted to be normal.

I now know that normal it the fairytale. I'm happily abnormal just like the society in which I reside. 8)

Truth be told, ladies, I've changed so many of my beliefs as I've grown. Probably the biggest and most important thing I believe in these days is myself.

Love to all,
Kyra
