Thanks for the saga! If I understand what the event was, was a big Halloween Party! Did they not have any entertainment, like bands or singers or comedieans? There must have been various "sites" that offered different "things" to do or try? What about food? Were there vendors selling stuff?
Glad you had an interesting time. Say you are planning on going back in June? Probably will be more fun as you will know what to expect!

Sorry folks, for all the lenght of my posts, it seems that what I typed up was the Cliff's Notes version. Amos Southend is one of the premier venues for rock concerts and such in Charlotte. It's a big space, tucked inside what used to be a warehouse or something back when textiles were big business here. If any of you in Virginia are familiar with the Boathouse in Norfolk, it's a lot like that. There's also a partial second floor, that rings the upper level like a horseshoe open at one end. At that end is a stage, with a DJ booth behind. In front of that, on the main level, is a dance floor. There is a bar at the opposite end, on both levels, and another on the far side of the room.

Downstairs there were a number of vendors hawking all sorts of stuff: corsets, silver jewelry, whips, straps and restraint devices, etc. One vendor sold goth music and videos, while another makes custom vampire fangs and such. There was a visual artist there who goes by the name of Tsubasa, and his animations were played on two giant flatscreens that hung over the dancefloor. Every hour, starting around ten, there would be a show presented on the stage. The shows were erotic in nature, but in some ways weren't too different from the performances my friends and I used to put on during the masquerade sequences at some scifi conventions.

Upstairs there were booths where various people showed off their particular "arts". There were two different booths where you could be flogged. One booth did what looked like sensual massage, until they poured hot wax on the other person. One of the booths was hosted by a fellow named "Dr. Spankenstein". He spanked, but he also pierced people with needles, and did this neat trick with alcohol and flames. They wrote about that in the CL story, but you just have to see it. I'm not really into pain, so all I could upstairs was watch, and that gets old after a while.

Ok, now that you have my attention!!!!

I have reread all this and of course I fall back on my normal excuse "being blond" I could have sworn that I read somewhere that this, this uh? "Purgatory" ?whatever? experience was going to be repeated sometime this summer in Charlotte??? If you find out when and where --------------------well? We may - MAY - want to come down and then we can at least say "been there done that ------ too!"

No worries! I sort of forgot that you were a little busy this past week, what with the festivities in Vegas and all. Belated congratulations, BTW.

The next Purgatory function is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, again at Amos Southend. Purgatory XXXII has a scifi theme. I have a couple of ideas for costumes next time, but a couple of those ideas need a second person to carry them off. In between, Single Cell also hosts Synthesis, a similarly-themed dance event at the Eden Lounge. I was going to go this month (last Friday), but I got called into work unexpectedly. The next go-around is May 25, when Charlotte will be in the throes of NASCAR fever, and I will definitely need the release.

Believe it or not, that particular selection of photos is one of the more tame galleries I've seen. There was a LOT to see there. I'll PM you with some of the more provocative links.

Postscript to the Purgatory XXXI experience. I haven't been able to process any digital photos in months, but I finally got to Walmart yesterday morning. They futzed up my order, then they tried to pin all the blame on my shoulders. It was NOT a happy experience, but I got most of my photos.

I did make it out to Synthesis last Friday. It was held at a club called Eden, a venue maybe 1/4 the size of Amos. I got to dance! Though I left mid-event to go home and change shoes, and ended up changing my whole outfit to something a little-more Goth. Originally I went out in black jeans with that rainbow-striped halter I bought at Torrid a couple weeks ago. I got my nails done to match the blue/green stripes in the halter, and OPI color called "Teal the Cows Come Home", and Julie was nice enough to do my fingertips the same way. They're back to looking American now.
