I guess this fits here.

Yesterday my wife and I went to the Richmond area to do a little shopping for quilt supplies, et al.

I wore off white khaki dockers and my light blue faux cashmere fem high high neck sweater. While sitting on the sofa discussing what we were going to do, my wife actually wasn't paying attention to what I was wearing. When she noticed, she paused, looked again, and continued. I expected her to tell me to change, but she didn't. =D>

At the first quilt store, one elderly lady who helps run it started talking to me about husbands coming to the store with their wives, and about having patience or not, etc. while their wives slowly looked through the material.

During this time my wife found one bolt that looked like it would work for a wedding ring quilt she's making for a young lady who has been our daughter's friend since 1985. They're both named Jennifer.

The lady I had been talking to took her to a cutting table to start a stack, and while they were there I went over and starting pulling bolts of material I thought would also work. Most did.

The lady was quite impressed. I reckon she'd never seen a husband do that before, but being an artist, I have a good eye for color.

So, we had a nice time and my wife relaxed being concerned about my sweater. Then we went to a second store, following up by going to the Cracker Barrel for lunch.

I could see a hint of concern again at lunch, but the waitress was great and my wife again relaxed.

Then we went to one of the malls, and shopped. We first popped into Ashley Stewart to have a look around. This store caters mostly to larger sized ladies of color, but hey, nice clothes are nice clothes. I saw a black nightie with a built-in bra that went on my gotta have mental list. We left empty handed, knowing we would be back when we headed back to the car.

We did more looking around and ended up spending time mostly at the ladies Dillard's. They had two at the mall, the other for the men. As we headed into Dillard's my wife began to look for the intimates section, thinking that I wanted a new nightie, we'd get one, and head out.

Not so, I says, so we looked through their large section of women's sizes and found an outfit for my wife to try on. She handed me her purse, and went off towards the dressing room, while I continued looking around with the purse slung over my shoulder. A short time later I went over to the dressing rooms, and my wife came out asking me to go find her another pair of slacks. Off again, with the purse. 8)

I brought a couple of pairs, and took a seat nearby. A lady shopping along with her husband had been standing at the counter to see if another Dillard's in Richmond carried an evening gown of a different size than the one they had there. She looked over, and her eyes flickered to "my" purse, noticed my sweater, and she gave a little smile.

Well, we bought the outfit, and then walked around to the intimates section, looking through the nighties. I eventually picked out a nice ankle length black gown. The bodice and shoulder area is stretch lace and has a wide V shape to show ample cleavage (if I had any  ). I hesitated, since it wasn't on sale, but my wife said I had one chance, so I bought it.

We eventually left, did some more looking around, found her a pair of crocks, me a new calendar, and stopped again at Ashley Stewart. My wife wanted a turquoise warm-up suit they had, so I picked up the nightie, and she asked, since I had bought one at Dillard's, are you writing the check. I said, "sure."

We have two joint checking accounts, one for her needs and household needs, one for my needs, bills and other household needs.

We ended the day back home and then by going to the movies to see I Am Legend w/Will Smith. Being even partially dressed locally is one of the top things on my wife's list of things she doesn't want me to do, but she didn't object last night. Well, she did a little when she noticed my necklace with the double heart pendant hanging in front of the sweater, and asking, "Why are you being bad?" But not in a bad way.

Wore the long nighie to bed.

Didn't know I could write that much, did you? :P

What a nice afternoon. Since you are buying things in a store catering to women of color does that mean you have crossed two boundaries for the price of one?

How did you like the movie. I don't really like zombies but the ruined buildings in the trailer look intriguing.

Nothing wrong with their concern, but it is sure nice when they relax a bit and it is more enjoyable.

I love those smiles and looks.

Thanks for the story. I know for me also with my wife on the wall, it is nice to see the little things of acceptance/tolerance.

Not really, as I've never seen color as a boundry. Beside, their offering had more style options than one normally find in places like the dress barn or fashion bug plus. Wish I had gone in there when looking for a wide belt a while back. Great selections for the larger ladies.

I liked it. It didn't drag any, and had a couple of surprises in it. There was one part that didn't make a hell of a lot of sense, but it fit the story line.

My wife was sitting there getting frightened at times, and saying "I don't like this." She chose the move, and actually did like it, it was just some of the parts were too much for her. If I told you why, it would spoil the movie.

Hi Ladies
Everywhere you look today on the news, talk shows ,network television and even on the PBS television and the learning channel there is talk about us gals. It's great.
I just saw a picture of James Spader wearing what looked like a blouse with flowers and carrying a womans purse. You go James.
We gals are the up and coming trendsetters Donna. We are slowing being undemonized if that's a word. If you go out a little bit femmed up people just smile and give you a nod.
You should try some of the pantyhose made for women with beautiful brown skin. They have some great colors that even look good on my skinny white legs.
Gender comes in a rainbow of colors. There are manish women and femminen men. Big deal. It's all natural and if you are a believer you know God never makes mistakes. The Creator liked variety. Just imagine life Donna if we only had one variety of plants, one animal , one gender and only one color of pantyhose. It gives me goosebumps just to think of it. If I had any hair on my body it would be standing up at the moment.
Have a fabulous week girls. I have to jump in my bubble bath and shave myself silly. I love it! Life's simple pleasures.Hugs.

Love

Absolutely! A smile or two cancels out any number of frowns or bewildered looks. I wish I knew how to interpret those smiles in words ...

"Ah, he's discovered the power of the feminine nature. Good for him."
"Cute purse, I'm glad he has the courage to carry it."
"We both know your secret."
"Men are such silly creatures."

I suspect there isn't a way to translate any one smile, much less a universal translation for all of them. They still make me feel wonderful.
