Hi Kelly,
Take your measurements in the same places women take theirs. When you go to pick your outfit(s) simply look at the size chart usually provided on the clothings tag. if no chart, you can take a clothes type measuring tape with you and measure the clothes. Now here's the thing. The odds are good nothing will be exact, but you will be in the ball park. You're going to have to try things on. Most places have an easy retunr policy as long as you don't rush and tear the tags off and you keep your receipt. No one will die if you take something back to exchange it.

The nicest choice when you shop is simply get a sales lady to help you with the decisions. You get more than just sizing info, you get help with colors etc. so you can get a pretty set.

For sports bras, measure your chest below your breasts and get a bra in the measured band size.

Spandex shorts. measure your hip size and waist size, compare to the online size chart. Go one size bigger.

Dear Kelly,

Don't try to convert a male size to female, it's not like inches to metric. Measure yourself and refer to a female size chart. Sports bras are sized much the same as a regular bra except they are supposed to fit more snug.
You may have to buy a best guess size and exchange till you get the hang of it.

It's all a best guess type situation. Not all regular bras (different brands) are the same size even if the size tag says they are.

So true, Donna. All clothing, whether on line or in store varies with each brand. Find your size in a certain brand and stick with it. There will always be returns though, those darn catalog models always look so good!

I will never buy any clothes without trying them on.
When I go shopping I underdress with a bulky sweater to
conceal my breasts. I have an idea about what size I am
by trial and error but started by checking the size charts.
They are not very accurate especially for men.
You can go to the Goodwill and try on clothes to get the right size
and then graduate to Marshalls and Kohls and shops that have
fitting areas for male and female. Good luck and don't be nervous

Since the husband wears larger forms even a bulky sweater wouldn't work. We have shopped together, him not dressed though, a breakthrough yet to happen. Mostly, he buys through a catalog, still there are some returns.

Eileen,
You know that is the greatest thing in the world to go shopping with your husband when he is dressed. \:D/ Now if you feel comfortable with his appearance why not tell him so and maybe just push him a little, but be very careful once he knows how easy it is he will want to do it all the time *-* .

Thanks Carol Ann! Baby steps for both of us. The first was catalog shopping, now he gets catalogs in his femme name and I've requested that my name be dropped from their mailing list. Always frugal! Personally, I dislike in store try on's, the changing room floors aren't clean, once got a pin stuck in my foot. And I feel hurried somehow.
As I mentioned, we have store shopped together, each in our own born gender attire. I try not to hold up items against him as Mom's do with their kids. Still, he's the one more uncomfortable. His dressing has mainly been with other CD's ,some SO's, at friendly places for meals and/or drinks. I am looking forward to going shopping with my 'girlfriend', as I think he looks better than some GG's, just doesn't act natural yet.

But, I'm afraid I've gone off topic. Goodwill, and other thrift stores, are a great place to start out. Even when you buy the wrong thing and are too timid to return it, consider it a donation of a few dollars. It's not just size to consider, certain styles will either flatter your figure or really look bad. A muscular frame needs loose fit tops with longer sleeves. Past a certain age, very short skirts are a no-no.
