New Glasses
I recently got new contacts, and I decided to get new glasses also. I went to one of those outside the mall glasses retailers during the middle of the afternoon because I wanted to get women's glasses instead of men's. I was met as soon as I walked in by an older male salesman. Of course my luck, I couldn't just wonder over to women's section! I timidly told him that I wanted women's classes. He kind of gave me a funny look, and said "it's usually the other way around, women come in here and they want the men's styles!" After that comment he was very nice and helpful. I picked out a couple that I liked from the women's section, and told him that I wasn't going to buy today. He insisted that I let him write down the style numbers on one of his business cards. He took his time writing them down, and made small talk with me while writing. He seemed to be getting nice, and almost flirting with me! He was an old man with gray hair, but he was nice and sweet! I thought at first he would be mean, and this was going to be a bad experience.
Does anybody wear women's glasses? And if so what was your experience?

Re: New Glasses
The first time I got women's, it was time for me to get a new pair of glasses so I just told them I needed a second pair and let's figure out how to weasel the price and insurances so I could afford both pair. I picked out my men's and got the options I wanted then we picked out my women's. We managed to work in some discounts and whatever to get the prices down so I could get the two pair.
Any time I decide I am ready to update my lenses or get new frames, I just work with whomever. Last time, I was sitting at the at the "fitting" table drab wearing my fem glasses while the world went by taking care of their business. No one paid attention. Every person who has ever worked with me for my glasses has done right by me. I never worry how I am going to be treated and never worry about other customers when it comes to me and my glasses.

When I bought a pair, the lady didn't seem to have an issue with it.
My biggest issue was with my wife

It's getting close to time for new glasses for me...I'm looking forward to picking out a nice, clearly feminine design!

Re: New Glasses
I just got my first pair of glasses last week, and I love them!! They are kind cool and funky and so definitely me. I only need them for distance, but sometimes I wish that I needed to wear them all the time just because I love them so much! The last pair of glasses I had were men's glasses that I had bought back in 2000. A new pair was very much needed!
The whole experience was very positive from the moment I walked in. The saleslady was awesome as was the optician. Even when I asked if she could print me a new receipt, (I had forgotten to mention that I needed my dead name on the receipt so I could claim it) she did so happily and with perfect understanding.

Re: New Glasses
Yes, I wear women's glasses. They really help me present as a woman. I went en femme to a Sears optical and tried on several pairs of women's glasses. When the woman assisting me and I agreed on a pair that looked and felt good I asked to try on some gender neutral ones which I wear when presenting as a man.

Re: New Glasses
When I got new glasses recently, I did the virtual mirror on glassesusa.com. I found a style I liked and while I was having my exam done, my wife picked out some frames. I ended up with the traditional RayBan frame, but in a red tortoiseshell. It looks great on my face and was from the women's section, but definitely works in guy mode. The optician who did the fitting/ordering told me that she wouldn't usually have chosen those frames for a guy, but they look great and will offer them to men in the future. She complimented me on my sense of style.
I was using my insurance for the exam and purchase, so I felt like I needed to show up as the person whose name is on the insurance cards.
This was one of those lessons I need to keep getting in not caring what people think and just being myself. After insurance I still spent about $200. For that much money, if I wanted pink and lavender My Little Pony frames, then nobody needs to judge.
