In a nearby wealthy town lives a very wealthy man who runs, or used to run, a bank. The bank made a lot of predatory loans, screwed people big time, and the man is now facing a variety of charges. Meanwhile hundreds of protesters have camped on his lawn and his name and address are on a website urging confrontation. As far as I am concerned, all well and good, he has it coming to him. But now we get to the part that's all wrong.
The website mentions his children, their names, and where they go to school. The school my wife teaches in. And although no one official on the website is urging this, on the website there is lots of talk about 'confronting" his family. Confronting is a nice word for what the more radical elements are urging, which are really just flat out threats of violence. So now the school has had to heighten security to protect this schmucks kids, who after all had nothing to do with this.
I'm all for putting these people in jail or better yet having them pick up trash in an orange jumpsuit along the highway for the next 10 years, and their ill gotten gains need to go to pay for restituion. But threatening their children is way beyond the pale and the folks who are doing it need to be locked up also.

Well put. You're so right: today, morals, manners and a lot of common sense have been replaced by malice, hate, revenge and just plain rudeness. The family did not initiate the wrong doings and are paying the price for what ill-gotten gains Dad made already.
This is part of my nostalgia for the 1950's (not just the great fashions). It was a time when people had manners and respect for one another. I admit that the descrimination ideals back then were totally wrong, but hopefully those are nearly erased now. But respect for the personal privacy of others was held in better regard.

The latest encouragement of this "hate" attitude (for want of a better word) is a new "toy". It's a doll made to look like the Madoff fraud financier. For $99 you get the doll (effigy) and a hammer to beat it with.
Nice for the children. Shows them what the real world is like.
Hugs,
Lydia

I don't know all the details. The stuff on the web, according to my wife, is pretty out there, and there were hundreds of protesters on the guys lawn, sitting in chairs that they brought. So there is a trail of people to be investigated. From what I understand, the threats on the web concerning the kids were fairly nasty.
