Cute (or not)

Post by DonnaT »

I received a message via my AOL email that said my PayPal account was limited because of several log in attempts that failed, and that access was attempted from two different locations. Both events were true.

In the email was a downloadable form to be opened in IE, filled out and submitted to remove the limited restriction.

Four problems with the form: It asked too many privacy questions, asked for credit card info, asked for my user name and password, and it was sent to an email account not tied to my PayPal account.

Idiots!

My limited experience with PayPal was that I got a lot of phishing emails that said they were from Paypal. Don't remember now how I found that they were fake sites. I haven't done much buying online, so haven't found a need for reviving my account.

I got an Email saying there was unauthorized activity on my PayPal account as well. Since I don't recall ever having put any money in a PayPal account, I thought it might be safe to ignore the message.

I've gotten that email 2-3 times. I forward it on to paypal. They need to be aware of this.

I to have gotten these types of mail and forward them on to PalPay as spam. I don't get them anymore.

Also watch out for and e-mail from Explorer saying there is a problem with your anti virus sofeware. DON"T run the repair scan, delete it as fast as you can. Huge virus and I had to completely reformat and redown load from my backup dish and of course redo all my favorits and what nots.

I deleted my Paypal years ago. =;

You know, the economy is in such bad shape that even the spammers/phishers who've been telling me I could inherit/win 92 million US dollars are also having trouble. It seems that today the best they were able to have me win was only $500,000.

Hardly worth surely having my identity stolen for the unlikely possibility of receiving "only" $500,000. Off to the recycle bin with them.

Hugs,

Bernice

No worries girls, once my cousin from Nigeria is restored to the throne, and I receive my 'royalty check'...pun intended, I'll set all of you up for life. It's a cool 150 million.

Hey! I, too, have a relative from Nigeria who died recently, leaving me 4.5 million dollars! We're still working things out but, as soon as I get the money, I'm all set to purchase crates of Viagra and penis-enlargement technologies. What a wonderful world.

While it is great to joke about phishing because as far as I have noticed most people here are smart enough to notice when we are getting an email from someone spoofing a Paypal email forward it to spoof@paypal.com. Ebay will prosecute when / if they find the person.

What worries me about Phishing is the number of people close to me that believe the stories. These Phisher folk must be raking it in. My sister once phoned me to say she had received a email from a girl in Nigeria who had a really hard luck story. she was all set to send her £100 because she felt sorry for her. I tried to tell her its a con. I dont think she believed me.

It's amazing what these Con Artists will try. I've receieved messages on my Yahoo account in similar fashion. They "look" genuine; I mean very professional looking letters with all the appropriate logos and trademarks. But I know for a fact that Yahoo doesn't ask for personal information (passwords, addresses, etc.) because they already have the pertinent info on file.

Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse, but when I get these types of emails, I send a warning to all my friends and family members. (Basically everyone in my address book) They're probably tired of hearing me say it, but it's better than the alternative!

Trust your instincts, ladies.
Hugs,
Kyra

I don't think I've ever used PayPal. I've been around since it's inception. It's taken it awhile to be safe. My credit cards offer me just as much if not more protection for online purchases. What we do though is not use more than one or two credit cards for everything online so that much less to steal. it also means we have a pattern of use the credit card companies can track fro anomalies. Hopefully and so far we are okay.
