Kimberly,

I got both ears pierced about 3 years ago (mid/late 50's). Started out with small silver studs that weren't too noticeable. Expected a lot of comment and teasing from my office mates, but didn't get much. When asked why, I usually just called it a mid-life crisis, which it was!

I come from a family of 7 boys; no girls. Got practically no comments regarding my pierced ears from them. We may kid each other a lot, but we are generally accepting of differences. And no, most of them do not know about Alana; I've only come out to one with whom I feel the closest. That's one difference I'm not quite ready to share fully.

My roughest comment was from my wife, who had actually dared me to get them pierced about a year before. After I had them pierced (she accompanied me), she commented that she hoped that [the piercings/earrings] didn't add fuel to the fire. She's aware of my crossdressing, but doesn't approve. Anyway, for Father's Day this year, she actually gave me a card of small, multi-colored studs (somewhat feminine) and said she couldn't find any masculine style earrings and hoped that these would be alright. I assured her they were fine.

In drab, I generally wear only small hoops and various sized studs. The studs may vary as to style, size and color, including pearls, metal balls, and rhinestones. When enfemme, I go a bit more glamourous with larger hoops and drops.

As you and others have pointed out, it doesn't really matter what others think, but what you think and how you feel. You need to be yourself and if that includes pierced ears, so be it.

For you ladies on the fence, regardless of age, if you would like pierced ears, go for it. There are piercing stations at Walmart, Claire's and other places that are free except for the starter earrings. I see many older men, though often bikers, with earrings, including dangling silver feathers or such.

Love,

Alana

Thanks Alana, Pat, Willie, Wendae, and Dottie for the comments. It is always great to hear what others have gone though along their journeys.

It was actually my wife that said we were stopping on the way past the mall to get mine pierced. Our kids were along. My son did not think much of it. But my daughter was right there with me. She had gotten hers' pierced the week before and interestingly the same person did both of ours.

I am seriouisly thinking of pierced ears soon. It is the 1st step taken to do it that I will have to be brave. Any experiences to share?

Be ready to answer one big question:

Why?

As many people will ask it and if you can give them an answer without stumbling on it most just move on.

And your answer to some just be "because I wanted to" I used that I my brother and a friend that got in my face about it. But what ever the answer it needs to see said like you believe it without a doubt. If you act nervous about your answer and hesitate people may not believe your answer and push for more information.

IMHO get them pierced and enjoy them.

I suggest going to Claire's. They do a lot of guys and gals.

I only had two people question it, and no bad reactions from anyone. A friend in WV asked "What's this?" and I responded "Pretty ain't they!?" Another guy asked why at work, and I just said it was because I wanted them.

Kittie

I got mine pierced at Claire's never even got a blink off the SA.

I felt no pain - just a slight pinch is all.

I love being able to put in dangly earrings when Susan goes out. My advice is simple - go for it - no one is bothered.

I got a much needed haircut today, in guy mode, and half of the barbers had earrings (its a big shop 20 or so stations). I usually take my earrings out for a closer shave...don't ask  but naturally the holes show. Anyway, haven't had any bad comments since I had them done 4 years ago and wish I had done it earlier! A gal at work last week suggested that I change styles more often which I thought was sweet. So, its not a big thing anymore!!!!

They're a great way to dabble if you're not planning to wear them regularly or for any length of time, but I find it hard to believe that some women actually wear them by choice. It doesn't take long for them to become downright painful, and the styles available are definitely more limited than the more traditional variety.

I found getting my ears pierced far less painful than wearing clip-ons for an hour!

Well I have thought about getting my ears pearced but I don't think I am ready for that yet. I did not think too long. I do have two pair of clip on to help me feel more feminine when I am dressed.
