fun outting
Today I had the opporturnity to meet a member of one of the local TG groups. I am normally a lone explorer...to get a handle on my own feelings about CDing and logistically, but today was different. She turns out to be full time and is super comfortable and outgoing, whereas I'm a fairweather dresser and very quiet.
We began the day with lunch at an Irish pub and the wait staff woman was very friendly with us. Although, she said "Hi Guys!" a couple times... I really think she uses that as a generic greating, but inside I was gritting me teeth, wondering is it going to be one of those days! Lunch was okay, we both had salads and talked about many of the life experiences we have both had. It was refreshing to hear someone else has gone through the same issues. Interesting how we reached different solutions. I have always looked young and although it sometimes is a problem in my male life, for CDing it is a benefit. My lunch partner, although not bad looking is about 10 years older than I am and is heavier, but totally has a female appearance and is ready to go to experience life and I spend hours trying to look just right and I have to warm up to get moving. She thought I looked like a daughter and her the mother...perhaps (she did buy my salad!). Anyhow, she waisted no time telling me about two men at an adjacent table who were checking me out (I thought she was joking). I felt bad because she said it has never happened to her....yet, I suspect it may have happened and she just didn't notice. On the way out, sure enough, they were looking at me, so just did a big smile as I walked by.
After lunch we went to a thrift store and then a more upscale shop. The shopping was fun, she helped pick all kinds of stuff for me. I've got to say, for myself, who usually tries to hide in the shaddows and not draw attention, she was one of the most outgoing talkative people I have met. But, I learned something...not one person gave us 'the look'...the one that says...I read you (although I would guess we were 'read'). We spoke with the staff, smiled with other shoppers and just carried on with the fun. In the upscale shop, I tried on a few tops and jackets...and wow, they looked great on me (the style is pulled in on the waist which looks good on someone thin and tall) they were see through multi-colored material and a camosole under)... on a limited budget though, I was forced to decline...sigh. maybe I'll go back.
From the thrift store I exited with a nice handbag, sports outfit, dress and jacket that looks great with my jeans and over the dress. Also, most importantly, I think I made a new friend. Hope you enjoy my small story.

What a great adventure many, many thanks for sharing with us. I love thrift stores as you can find some really good things there. I can also agree with the limited budget thing, oh well. But on a more positive not you've made a new friend.
Thanks again, you brightened up a crappy day for me.

Sounds like you had fun. I know all too well about going out by ones self. And when you do get to go with another it is so much more fun.
