Hair at Last!

Post by April Rose »

I finally have my wig! I took a vacation day from work today and drove out to Sonja's Wig Salon in Worcester to get it .
I was nervous at first, but It turned out to be so easy. Both Sonja and Cathy made me feel welcome, and Cathy proved to be very helpful in choosing a wig that feels like me.

I Wore an outfit of androgynous woman's clothes for the outing. A black jewel neck cotton tunic, black blazer, tan pleated pants and sneaker style mary jane flats. My bag was an old one of Nancy's, a large Coach shoulder bag. I didn't seem to get any notice on the way in, so on the way out, because I liked my new wig so much, and felt so comfortable in it, I wore it out of the store, even though my car was parked a block away, around the corner. I got one double take, but no problems.

All in all it turned out every bit the fun, feminine adventure I'd hoped it would be.

congrats April!
I just recently bought 2 wigs myself, and I definitely agree with you that it's a great experience. Since I have a few bare patches on my pate, I need all the help I can get.

Is it wig hunting season for us?

I got my new ginger wig last week too - pictures due in a couple of weeks when I have my next night out.

It's really good, having the right hair. Kind of like another bit falls in place. And a nice experience on top of that... :)

Thanks, everybody! Ralitsa, I'm way past the bald patches stage, Steaming steadily toward the chrome dome. The bald guy in a dress look was kind of getting to me. I'm really enjoying my new look. Anthony, I know what you mean about things falling in place.

But the best thing is, what was a sort of fantasy is now a memory. That's something I'm going to keep in mind, going forward.

I'm wondering what you girl's experience is with real hair wigs as opposed to fake hair?
The two that I have are not real hair, and I like them and think they look good, but I wonder if the real hair is better. Does real hair look better, is it harder to care for? What has your experience been?

My wig is synthetic, but I think it looks fine. I'm told that real hair is harder to care for, but I really don't know, as I have never owned a real hair wig.

I just have a funny feeling about wearing someone else's hair. Besides, I am lazy, and my synthetic wigs wash easily in any old shampoo, and dry out to their original style.
Just my $0.02 input.

Hugs,

I have had several wigs in the past. Paula Young worked best for me. I have since stopped and let my natural hair grow out. The wigs were easy because of the pre-styling. Natural hair sure takes an awful lot of work!

I remember how special purchasing my wig was, the lady helped me to select the right style for me, then asked if I would like her to style it. I was seated in a salon chair infront of a wall of mirrors and she worked on it for about 20 minutes, then after determining I did not wish to wear it out of the store we carefully put it away, It is the only wig I have and I keep it in shape by keeping it on a wig stand, covered and in a box. It is still in good shape though it is 5 years old. I have only washed it once or twice, and carefully used only a little styling spray. Congratulations to you, I know how special buying a wig is, and how wonderful I felt with make-up, ear rings and my beautiful wig - I felt like a lady and was amazed at my resemblence to my sister.
