The one thing that has been missing from going out is when I go shopping I have to use credit cards with my male name.
However yesterday I called Victoria Secret (one of the cards that I have) and asked if they could add Steffie on the account they had. The girl said sure she could. She asked what relationship she was to me (my male name). I said, well, that is my femme persona and can I still add her? She said sure she could. So they are sending me another Victoria Secret card (same number) but with my femme name, Steffie, on it. She even said she will put Steffie's name on the account where Steffie has permission to call about the account.
It'll be so nice to have a store credit card with my femme name on it. So now when I pay, I don't have to feel self-conscious where the card shows a male name on it. I can still keep the male card handy in case anything ever comes up but at least now "Steffie" can have the full shopping experience.
Since Victoria Secret is transgender friendly, now let me see if I can do the same thing with the other stores I frequent over the next few days. Wouldn't that be nice: to have all femme credit cards in my purse!
This is an awesome discovery. Very very awesome. I think you've talked me into this hahaha Stop it I like it. Heehee.
The only thing to remember is to keep the male name on the account for telephone banking and such. I knew a tg who had lots of trouble getting them to talk to her on the phone as the name was legally changed to one that 'didn't match the voice' as it were
All my credit card have a different name than the name on the account. I simply went with my 1st initial so it doesn't matter which of me is using the card. I've never had troubles with the card companies or the stores. What's fun is when people see a guy using the obviously cute, pretty pink discover card. The girls love it and usually comment. Then later still the same card shows up in the hands of a lady.
One thing else about changing the account names or adding names tot he account is credit checks, etc. You never know what will have to come out when someone is checking on you. With just a name change on the card and not the accaccount, there will never be any legal issues.
Oh, and congrats on your new VS card. *blush* almost forgot
I use my male CC's while enfemme and have no problems doing so. In fact it is handy when they ask for and ID as it matches. I have thought of adding a femme name to some of them but not having had any problems so far and me just being a guy who wears femme clothes I do not have a strong need to do it. It is a great option for those that want to do it.

I am a physically male person that likes to wear feminine clothes at times.
Just trying keep a balance for my self along with keeping my wife and kids in mind.
Most banks will issue credit and debit cards in names other than yours. When our son was in college, we got him a credit card with his name on it, but with our credit card number on it. That way we could tell what he was charging, how much, where and when. So I would check with your local bank about getting issued a second card with your fem name on it. Once I did run into a problem when using one of my credit cards while out en fem. Without thinking I gave the SA my card to scan. She looks at it, then at me, hands it back, and says, "Sorry Mam, but your using your husbands card". I quietly told her that was really me. All of a sudden she figured it out, said, "OH, OK". and swiped the card.
Just to add to JoAnn's observation - I have cards from a couple of large issuers in both my male and female names. No problems getting them at all. Just had to ask. It gets a little trickier when trying to get debit cards from your bank, though, since those tie directly into your checking account and require a signature card. Still working with the bank on this.
As far as using the cards, as JoAnn said, most of the time the sales clerks never look at the cards. On the rare occasion when they do ask for an ID, I just use my Trans ID card. I know it's not a legal form of ID, but it has never failed me - hotels, department stores, restaurants, wherever. If I were asked to produce my legal ID, I would just show my driver's license and let them work it out for themselves.
You mentioned a 'Trans ID' card ? I've not heard of this before, but it sounds like a useful thing to have. heehee
May I ask exactly what that is? And how I would go about getting one? It could be a nice thing to have in my purse along with Karins points cards
I've seen the ID cards before, and I saw a "statement" card that explained us. They have no legal premise, but could be handy for a possible emergency. Now I'm not sure what emergency, but back then I had considered getting one -- just never did.
To be perfectly honest, I totaled a car as Davita and the cop handled me without issue of being en fem. I produced my driver's license and that was sufficient for processing me. With that, I don't really know why a trans ID would be much help other than a way to come out to some one. Hey! Check out my new ID.......
As far as ID goes it has to be right, i.e. match you. I have crossed borders on my passport produced my drivers license to Police and paid for all sorts of stuff with my cards, the D.L. and the Passport have photos, and up till now that photo has been of me with a beard, and no one has so much as batted an eyelid in front of me. They may have had a good laugh at my expense afterwards, but that doesn't effect me.

Just because you don't believe it, that doesn't mean it's not true
I picked up my "Trans ID" at a meeting held by one of the ladies on this board many years ago. Since you live across the pond, you might want to check with a local gender support group to see if such a thing exists in the UK.
I'm not sure what the laws are there, but from my own experience, this secondary form of ID has worked in all instances when I needed to show ID. Most hotels require an ID at check-in and it has always worked in those instances. Most retailers don't ask for ID when using a credit card like they used to, but again, the secondary ID has worked when I needed it.
Obviously, if I were stopped for a traffic offense or requested to produce ID for airline travel I would show both the "Trans ID" and my government issued driver's license or passport (male).
I did follow up again via telephone with my bank last week to see if I could obtain a debit card as myself, but since those are tied to a checking account, I can't get a second card without an official ID. I'm probably going to visit my local branch later this week and see if I can explain my situation better in person, then show them both IDs. Might work, might not, but worth a try. But as for credit cards themselves, no issues with obtaining those.
