TG Airline Travel To Canada

Post by Angie »

Hi, All!

I'm hoping that some of our Canadian sisters can help me with a question.

I'm planning to visit a friend in Canada later this year and wanted to know what the travel guidelines were for TG travelers relating to air travel. I would be flying from the US into Canada, then returning a few days later. The TSA has posted new guidelines to ease the travel process for those who present as a different gender than on their official documents. From what I've read on the situation in Canada, however, it appears that persons whose gender presentation does not match their travel documents are not allowed to board an aircraft. Is this the case? Any current information would be greatly appreciated!

Take Care,
Angie

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regu ... nder#s-5.2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5.2 (1) An air carrier shall not transport a passenger if

(a) the passenger presents a piece of photo identification and does not resemble the photograph;

(b) the passenger does not appear to be the age indicated by the date of birth on the identification he or she presents;

(c) the passenger does not appear to be of the gender indicated on the identification he or she presents; or

(d) the passenger presents more than one form of identification and there is a major discrepancy between those forms of identification.

(2) Despite paragraph (1)(a), an air carrier may transport a passenger who presents a piece of photo identification but does not resemble the photograph if

(a) the passenger’s appearance changed for medical reasons after the photograph was taken and the passenger presents the air carrier with a document signed by a health care professional and attesting to that fact; or

(b) the passengers’s face is bandaged for medical reasons and the passenger presents the air carrier with a document signed by a health care professional and attesting to that fact.

Hi, Donna

Thanks for the links! So the situation is pretty much the same. Guess I'll be requesting a letter after all.

Thanks!

Check out Kimberley's blog on femulate.org. She's travelled en femme from USA to Canada and back without trouble several times.

Just because you don't believe it, that doesn't mean it's not true

Yes that's her. Comes up as .blogspot.com.au on my machine. She writes really well but I was just pointing to a couple of specific trips to and from Canada that might have helped Angie.

Also, from experience you're going to have a much easier time going in from Ontario or BC than Quebec, although my harshest moments have always been with the stateside administration.
