NO,NO Hair Removal System

Post by LaurenD »

I've been thinking about buying one of these devices but I'd like to hear the experiences of others here who have tried it. Does it really work? Were you satisfied with the results? Is it cost effective? Please respond as your comments will certainly have an effect on my decision.

Hugs Lauren,

I have tried creams a few other devices and for what it's worth I prefer a women's razor and the fun of shaving my leg's and what ever else. <-->

I will second the opinion of Carol Ann. For the hundred bucks the NoNo gizmo costs, I shave my legs etc. for a couple years. Doubt that the machine lasts that long. Anyone here actually buy one? I would like to know.

I've not tried one. Note that they have come out with a more powerful version, which to me means not too many were happy with the original.

In either case, the NoNo uses heat to sever the hair shaft near the skin surface. Not at the surface. This results in instant stubble. To remove the stubble, a cream and sandpaper come with the kit, and you have to sand down the stubble.

I don't have the time for all that work. A razor can be used for at least 10 shaves before needing to replace with a new one. I use the same one for my face and legs, shaving at the gym. Face 3 times per week, and legs and underarms twice a week. So, a pack of 14 razors can easily last me an entire year. What's that, about $10 a year, or $100 for 10 years?

On this topic, I hope other GG's chime in. The No-No is meant for the less course hair of women, maybe that's why a newer version came out, to deal with male hair.
We more mature women cannot shave our face and the cost and inconvenience of getting waxed makes a No-No seem worth the money. If it doesn't snow too much today, I'm having lunch with a friend that received one for Christmas. I'll give you all a review afterwards.

The No-No works, sorta. Not at all like the commercials, imagine that! It certainly is not meant for male hair removal. More for the post menopause facial hair that otherwise must be removed by waxing or plucking. And, the No-No should be used daily for months before the hair doesn't grow back anymore.
So, keep your shavers.

They have come out with a No-No Hair Removal System with men in mind.

Au contrare my dear! =; It is a myth that women cannot shave their faces and models have been doing it for years, and long before 'photoshopping' came along. I have been a face shaver for 10+ years without any problems whatsoever. In fact, it helped to reduce my adult acne (no hair for dirt/oils to cling to) . . . if I had done it in my much younger years I probably would never have had acne. #-o

I use a combination of 3- or 5-blade razors (men's or women's) and a Braun Series I 190 battery/electric razor, and I shave my hands/fingers and arms, too . . . not that my hands/fingers are/were hairy, it's just that I prefer the look and feel of smooth skin!! The sharper the razor, the better the shave . . . especially for the 'fine' facial hair. I usually shave with the blade razors while in the shower, and use the Braun for touch-ups or missed areas.

CAUTION: Do not shave near the eyes, eyebrows, or forehead! The skin around the eyes is very sensitive and tweezers should be used for 'problem' hairs and eyebrows.

Another benefit of facial shaving is that the removal of the 'peach fuzz' also makes one look younger because the result is a slimmer face.

Oh dear! Are you saying, SL, that my Mother lied to me? Mom kept our youngest sister's hair very short when she was little to make it grow thicker. And a High School friend's Mom had a definite mustache caused by shaving, so I was told. I had always believed 'old wives tales' survived because they had at least some truth to them.
Good old genetics has the final say after all. So far, all I have to worry about is cleaning up eyebrows and barely discernable cheek fuzz.

As far as the effectiveness of the No-No. After months of usage, the hair grows back much finer or is supposedly permanently removed. If that's the end goal, a No-No would be much cheaper than laser treatments.
So far, my friend is unimpressed with hers, but it's way to early to tell.

It will definitely not result in permanent hair removal. To do that, the root of the hair must be destroyed. The No-No works on the hair above the skin, not on the roots.

Did she lie to you? No, she was just misinformed and believed what she was told. Having short hair does not make it grow thicker, only your genetics will determine thick or thin hair, not the hair cut/length, although the hair may appear to be thicker it really is not. Your friend's mother - I seriously doubt that shaving caused her to grow a mustache, she may have been on medication that caused it to appear, who knows!

Most women - especially those of Mediterranean descent or darked-haired (Italians, Greeks, etc.) - will tend to 'grow a mustache' as they age (some may not, others will), but that's just a part of genetics and getting older, when the estrogen levels drop and the testosterone levels seemingly increase. The mustache is one reason why I started shaving, the peach fuzz was the other, and I have never regretted facial shaving - nor will I ever stop doing it.

Old Wives' Tales are just that - tales and myths with little or no truth behind them. :sigh:

Of all the things I had hoped to comprehend about cross dressing, the last I suspected to learn was that many women face shave. Not to doubt SL, I did a little research and found that even Elizabeth Taylor shaved! I'm convinced.
Still not impressed with the No-No. Maybe after my friend has used it for several more months.

I use an epilator about once a week an occasionally use a razor. I found the greatest
Schick® Intuition® Naturals Sensitive Care® razor has a Skin Conditioning Solid™ that contains 100% natural Aloe with Vitamin E, and is fragrance free and hypo-allergenic so it's gentle on your skin and helps reduce irritation. What a great job an such a great feeling.

My reasoning to buy a No!No! is that I have hair all over. It takes me quite a long time to trim then shave. And for me it grows back fairly fast. So I would need to do this probably alot more then I would with the nono.

I have not bought one, and here in Canada they are extremely expensive at $330. But the cost of a really good razor here also is very expensive. So I did a cost ratio and for the cost of buying razors to nono, it sort of doesn't make sense to keep buying razors which basically is like throwing money out the window.

I would really like to hear from any one who have bought and used the nono....

I've been using a NONo for about a month now an so here's my conclusions...

Firstly - does it replace shaving / is it better than shaving? No. If you are expecting to use it all over your body - it is going to take you forever! Mind you, I didn't buy it with that in mind having read lots of other peoples comments.

My experience is that different hair removal techniques work best on different parts of the body. The NONO is brilliant in areas where the skin is not smooth such as the area in the middle of my chest. Shaving there often results in me taking the top off of bumps in my skin or ingrown hairs. The NoNo is brilliant for this - that whole area of my body is looking great now! So - tops of legs / bottom etc are great with this gizmo.

I also find that after I have shaved my face and got it nice and smooth - the NONO gives it that further level of smoothness.

Is this the answer to life, the universe and everything? Not so much! That said, if mine broke tomorrow - I'd buy another one because it solves a problem that I've not found any other solution to (and believe me - I've looked!).

Hugs Ginny xxx *-* *-*
