Getting Not so Free Make overs!
I have had make overs at a MAC Store in NYC and in Tampa as well Merle Norm. I do like the strong rich color pigment in the eye shadow and the contouring products from MAC! I buy most of my
makeup from a drug store and K mart!

MAC is a fabulous place and they are sooooo friendly. One her is Vancouver did a makeover for me, the artist coached my wife as to how best to do my makeup, and let me change clothes in one of their back rooms. Needless to say we dropped $250 that day plus a $50 tip for the artist!

Re: Getting Not so Free Make overs!
I had been considering a special treat for my hubby with a trip to Merle Norman. Mostly because around here they are more a stand alone store while MAC is usually in a mall. Having no idea how to do a man's face, I wouldn't mind some coaching tips, but he should be able to do 'her' own face.
But, Toni-Lynn, $300! I know cosmetics are costly, but that's a butt load of cash! What all did you get for that?

A trip to a professional makeup artist would certainly be a lot of fun, but in the meantime there are many instructional videos available on the web, which are specifically geared toward making a males face appear more feminine. Currently I've been working on contouring the jawline. It's tricky business as our male facial structures are clearly different than a women's.

Lovely avatar, Robyn!
I've always been a minimal make up woman, special events really push my skills. So offering help on how to contour jaw lines, cheek bones and baggy eyes are beyond what I can do. Most U-tube videos feature younger and better looking faces to begin with.
A professional consultant would help build confidence for both of us. Afterwards, he can buy the less expensive brands.

So true! I remember the first time I watched a video on applying eye shadow. I was very excited and thought to myself that looks easy enough. I headed to the vanity and positioned myself in front of my SOs magnifying mirror. Instantly I realized that the skin of my eyebrow was sagging completely down over my eyelid; what the heck! After that I narrowed my internet search criteria to provide results geared toward the middle aged generation, lol.Eileen (SO) wrote:Most U-tube videos feature younger and better looking faces to begin with.
For me, applying makeup is part of fulfilling my feminine side, and it’s something I have fun with and really enjoy. One of these days I’ll treat myself to having it done professionally.
I look forward to reading your post telling us all about you and your husband’s experience at Merle Norman.

The special trip may not happen for a few months, Spring weather and all that. Wherever anyone goes, I know it's not mandatory to buy every product suggested. Even so, once you're there, why not buy what works. Cheap make up doesn't wear well. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Re: Getting Not so Free Make overs!
I did that one time, and am really glad I did. For one thing, I'm never entirely confident that what shows up on you-tube is true, and that the person has any idea what they are talking about.
So that time I spent about $150 on the high-end products. But what I really appreciated is that the lady told me straight out that for several items I should just get them from a department or drug store, and suggested a few brands. I definitely think it was worth it.

That's awesome Ralitsa. More posts of positive experiences like this helps me convince my SO we need to set a professional makeover session date.

I also thank you, Ralitsa. Care to share which place you went to? It may not matter much, the consultant herself makes all the difference. The $150 price range is more toward our liking, whew!

Re: Getting Not so Free Make overs!
I have had several makeovers at. Merle Norman most have charged very little
To nothing for the Makeover
But I always buy something
Also try for a time when they are not busy
The stores in Amarillo and Lubbock Texas were ESP helpful
