War Paint and Skin Care

Post by Gelinda »

Ok I will show how dumb I really am about this side of me.

 =D>

I want to know a lot more about what to do to my skin to make it smoother and much better. I have never done anything except for take a shower with baby oil once a week. I need to know about Facial cleaning and the like. I am reading about it in the book I got on loan but it is an older book. Plus I want different opinions before I start anything.

Next question is what war paint does everyone use and why. In deep detail if you please as I have never done any of it either plus my wife does not wear any either which is most likely my fault. Which I wonder how I am going to change. I also have a pretty daughter which does not wear any either which is just like me in character which I am going to have to work on also.

This one was hard for me to ask as I was afraid of what everyone one would think as most of you wear war paint. But I decided I would be like my work a day self. The only dumb question is the question not asked.

Gelinda,

here I go whwere no one else has answered yet. Skin care is a place where your mileage can really vary, but this is what I do:

I did really suffer from proriasis until a few years ago I started taking meds for arthritis.

I shower daily and for my body I use Olay bar soap for sensitive skin. I cleanse my face and neck with a generic brand of Cetaphil - it's so gentle it doesn't sting my eyes.

After showering I shave with my Norelco advantage shaver. My shaving prep is holding a hot washcloth to my bears area, then I use a small amount of generic Edge type shave gel and then shave. I rinse my face off with cool water. My after shave is a generic Oil of Olay type moisturizer with spf 15. After I dry off, I apply body lotion to the rest of me - the brand varies and the latest is a noname alpha hydroxy from a local pharmacy. I also put a tiny amount of alpha hydroxy lotion on my fingernails and back of my hands.

I don't use makeup very much yet, but I think regular skin care is a great place to start and then build on that.

I hope this blonde has provided a little help - Walmart should have these basics for less than most other places.

Thanks Jadeanne: I also have psorasis but only have to use coritzone on it at this time but it is on my face. One reason for the wondering of skin care. I do not shave my body as of yet, wife would kill me if I did so she says. I will get the oil of olay as I was using it from the last skin doctor for my face for the sores. But cortizone does a better job for the sores.

Thanks for me the first of many I hope. Gelinda.

Gelinda,
I hope some of the SO's will reply as well. You may want to purchase a couple of "Women's Magazines" Cosmo, ELLE, Vogue, Redbook, and just peruse the articles. The web sites for these mags also offer a lot of beauty tips. Max Factor, Olay, Mabellene, all have good web sites and can give you step by step from cleaning to final powder. Important also is when you put what on, that is shadow before mascara eye liner before shadow. My basic routine is after washing and cleaning my face, use what is called "loose powder" then foundation, then powder to set the foundation. For foundation, Merle Norman recommends using a good quality make-up sponge not your fingers. Proper tint in foundation is important to so you need to know you skin tone. One of the best things is to make an appointment with a "make-up artist." Merle Norman is free and they will do a complete make-over on you, but needless to say you should ask on the front -end if they do CD'ers. Most do and seem to enjoy it. They do "expect" you to however buy some of the products they sell. If you go to a "unisex" barber/beauty shop ask if they do or know someone that does make-overs. Just some ideas - hope it is a start.

Thanks Deborah: One of my fears was that the way of doing the skin for woman would be different for a man when we start out doing the facial cleaning regament. I have never done anything long expect when a doctor made me. The macho man fights the CD side of me, I believe now I am going to pay the price for bad skin care.

I am going to get the skin care down first before moving on to war paint. I am going to get my wife to Merle Norman first it is my fault that she does not wear make up and I have to correct that fact plus my daughter also. The Macho and drinking part caused that mistake.

Sharon Thanks but I am going to have to ask some basic questions here.

1. what is loofah.

2. How to you tell which skin you have oily, dry, etc. I know that my legs are very dry and flaky some of the time reason for baby oil. But my face is not the same so how do I tell.

3. do men go to day spa's??? what about nakeness, only thing I know about them is what I see in the movies.

4. I was thinking of going to a Merle Norman or something for skin care now and war paint later.

5. I am not sure about the war paint as I am not sure I am ready to go that far as of yet. But I have to do something about my skin as I am having a lot of problems in different ways some dealing with my psorasis sores seem to be ok most of the time ( not there) then I wake up and they are. I believe a lot of it is due to no skin care. As you said which is bad for it, I have only used the soap's that I use on my body for my face.

6. What is a Moisturizer, is that lotion as in Vaseline intestine care.

I told everyone when I started this one that ""I know nothing"". Same a SGT Schults in the old sitcom Hogan's heroes.

All of my questions for this thread so far started with Love (s0) thread.

One more question as i think I have combination skin on my face. What is exfolite.

What other brand names to I buy for doing all of this stuff to my face. Should I go to Merle Norman and allow them to teach me this stuff. Or do they do it this basic to a big dummy. Gelinda.

Thanks Sharon: When I went to wally world today to get my blood pressure med's, I got a bottle of Cetaphil (generic) and a plastic thing like the looflah. Did not see on like the one in the picture. I had not read the post or I would have found one of the facial mosturizers also. Thanks a million. Gelinda.

I have been using makeup and such for about 35 years, love it.
Now I am trying to teach my husband how do keep nice skin and wear makeup.
My advice it this, keep it simple and just because it has a fancy name and a high price does not mean it is the best for you.
I have tried them all and usually find myself back at wallmart buying Oil of Olay products for my facial skin care. They are inexpensive, not greasy, have sun screen if you want it and will really keep your skin nice and looking younger.
You asked about exfoliating Olay has a new product a cleanser with exfoliating beads in it, I use it every morning. Since using it my skin is soft and bright. The exfoliating removes all the dead skin in the top layer so you have that new baby skin every day.

If you are going to wear makeup then get yourself in the habit of cleansing, moisturizing, morning and night, every day no matter how tired you are. Makeup goes on clean skin much smoother and looks better

My Mom told me this when I was 13- NEVER,NEVER go to bed with makeup on your face, you ruin your sheets and your skin!

AS for makeup, get some and just play with it, till you get the look you want, practice makes perfect.
