One of the hardest things I've ever had to do...

How are you dealing with or handling this aspect of your life?

Sophie,

Sorry for being a late comer here, but I just could not be happier for you. That story put such a smile on my face. I had to copy and paste your story so I could save it. I just can't say how proud of you I am, that you found it within yourself to tell her. I am so glad it had such a great outcome.

Love always,

Sophie, honey! guess a lot of us are in tears over your success. I have thought about you often since your decision to tell your mother! I knew it would go well for you! Didn't we tell you to have pictures and she probably would not even recognize you! You are a georgeous woman and when she sees Sophie, she will be soooo proud. Please tell her that your sisters here are also proud of you!!!!
Love,
Deborah

Ahhhh, I'm so annoyed with myself lol

I went over my Mums today and we went in town, before we went in town I gave her a few new photos and she said how much she loved my dresses and that she's gonna get a photo album for them.

Anyways... Last week I never dressed up for Mum cos I was too shy to, but I really wanted to, and today I just couldn't walk into the clothes shops. I dunno why, but I just couldn't do it... :( Hopefully over time I'll get confidence to not care what anyone in the shop is thinking, but I just was scared of what the girls in the shop would be thinking seeing me looking through the clothes :(

Awww well... There is really no point to this message lol other then me saying how annoyed I am with myself cos all I had to do was go in the shop with Mum but I couldn't do it grrr [-( Ohh yeah, my Mum also thinks I should tell my Sister but I'm a bit unsure :-k

Sophie,

You have made a great stride with revealing Sophie to your mother and having her accept you and start an album of your pictures *-*

I think your shyness is just a short emotional rest after that big step. You were probably concerned about being dressed and made up perfectly for the first time greeting your mother as her new daughter.

I don't know how the shops are in your town "across the pond", but may I offer a few suggestions?
  • If you are going into the shops with your mother, you can play the role of advisor in helping her select things for "cousin Sophie" so if you are shopping together you can use that phrase or another one that you both agree on so that a casual listener wouldn't understand easily.

If you are shopping by yourself, make up a small list beforehand to take with you for reference. It can make a good prop, it nothing else, giving the impression that you are looking for gifts. I make a list in a small pocket notebook and pull it out for reference every so often, and sometimes write notes in it. It also pays to have an answer ready for clerks if they ask who the clothing is for. I say that it's for my wife, and it isn't false because all of her things except shoes fit me and she borrows some of my things.

I think you are handling things very well - you just may have to tell yourself "small steps, small steps" every once in a while. ))ok(( .

Please keep us posted on your activities.

Hugs,

Jadeanne

Hi all,

Sophie,

Take heart; you have your life ahead of you. Take your time. Small steps (try not to mince, though! :P ).

Oh, and tell your sister, too. You've described the two of you as being fairly close; open up to her. I'm pretty sure she won't run away screaming into the night.

I wish you strength, peace, and confidence, girl! 8)

Love,
CJ

Hi Sophie,

Jadeanne hit on something there.

I am very much in the closet, But ~D~ will often shout over to me in a shop, " do you think Rebecca will like this ".
It's quite fun actually

Good luck, though I don't really think you'll need it, your'e doing just fine. When you get near that shop, spare a little thought of all of us here going "go Sophie, you can do it"

Love

Sophie, Your just so cute, I think you"ve tumbled down a hill and you just need to take a few breathes and wait for your emotions to catch up to you, with all that has transpired since you told your Mum. You've told us that you wre shaking when trying to put make up on in one of your posts. That pretty emotional in it self, now you wrestling with being out there with Mum and sis. Big big steps. No need to beat your self silly for not looking at dresses, there will be more times for dress shopping, ssometimes it just doesn't feel right , other times it's just dandy. You have done so much since your first post, More than alot of us have done. Your are not a bad person because you wanted to do something and didn't , on a moments notice. If your Mum thiks you should tell your sister maybe a family meeting would be good for moral support from your Mum. Just a thought , good luck with your decsion. hugs and kisses.......Kristen

Hiya,

Thanks for the advice girls, that would be so cool being in a shop going, I think Sophie would like this lil mini skirt Mum :) wahooo lol *dreams*

You know my Mum and my Sister haven't spoken for over 5 years, well I've managed by some kind of miracle to get them to start speaking and on Monday they are both coming over my place to kiss and make up :) My Mum even has a grandson who she has never seen so I think there will be lots of tears on Monday.

I figured seeing as my Mum has changed my life for the better I wanted to somehow repay the favour. Anyways, I can feeling this burning desire again to tell my Sister  so I might tell her next week, dunno yet.

Me and her are always joking around so I would expect her to take the p*ss out of me a lot, in a good way, when I tell her. So that could be fun I suppose :? anyways, *huggy hugs* lol

Hi Sophie,

I am so glad things are going well for you, and trying fix old wounds is a very noble thing. I made just such an attempt with my mother and sister.

It did however backfire and ended in another huge fight at what was supposed to be the "kiss and make up" meeting. You should prepare yourself for this likelyhood. They still must solve thier resentments, and unfortunately you have no control over this.

You can not control what others think, say or do and it is wasted effort to try. I hope it goes well, but my best advice would be to take care of Sophie, I am sure it is a full time job.

Having said that, good luck, and I hope everything goes great for you and your family.

Love always,
Elizabeth

Elizabeth, my Dad has said to me to expect the worst as well simply because he tried to get my Mum and Sister back talking 2 years ago but my Mum just wouldn't have it. My sister wanted my Mum to say Sorry but Mum never would, but she has promised me she will say sorry on Monday to my sister and my Sister has said if she says Sorry it will all be forgiven.

Whatever happens it will be an interesting day :)
