Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Life is like a grind-stone,
weather it wears you down,
or polishes you up,
depends on what you are made of.

The only race that matters,
is the human race.

Two of my favorites.

Isn't This An Alternative to Creativity?

Creativity Corner — “A place to share our creative side, whether it be poetry, stories, or songs.”

“Methylphenidate, also known at Ritalin, is a medication prescribed for individuals who have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which consists of a persistent pattern of abnormally high level of activity, impulsivity, and/or inattention that is more frequently displayed and more severe than is typically observed in individuals with comparable levels of development. The pattern of behavior usually arises between the ages of 3 and 5, but the disorder can persist in adults.”

How about the off-topic area? This is not original poetry, an original story, or an original song....

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.

Hazrat Inayat Khan

Against criticism a man can neither protest nor defend himself; he must act in spite of it, and then it will gradually yield to him.

Hi girls,

The originality and creativity is not in the quote, it is the selection of the quote and hence we share our own beliefs.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Certainly your selection could be creative to some degree, but think about the implications of what you have said. Assuming that your creativity was indeed being exercised in your “selection of the quote,” that implies that you would have selected purposefully and have a full understanding of the passage you had quoted. Presumably, your discussion (which would include more than just a quote from someone else) would derive part of its meaning from some sort of context ─ it would not just be out of the blue. And you would not be too promiscuous. If you were to quote Karl Marx today, apparently with approval, and then to quote Ronald Reagan tomorrow on the same subject, apparently with equal approval, there would be enough surrounding textual material to show the reader that this does indeed make sense, given your conception of something ─ that you are not just an attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder sufferer who chooses material at random from his hotmail inbox.

In my judgment, a person would not be permitted to dump material from their inbox on any of the major creativity boards out there.

Perhaps we need to put things in perspective... this may be the "Creativity Corner" where we can have “A place to share our creative side, whether it be poetry, stories, or songs.” However, it is also a thread for "Quote Of the Day". This does not necessarily have to be an original quote. If I read "The Raven", I would come away with a different perspective than another, for a combination of reasons. My personal history, background, education level, intellegence, and personality. I personally enjoy seeing quotes from famous and not so famous people. I also enjoy quips from movies and such. We are all individuals...so here is MY QUOTE OF THE DAY:

LIVE AND LET LIVE!!!
If the shoe fits, wear it.

And I made it without even realizing, in another thread!!!

Fear is the antithesis of courage. It keeps us moored to the pier instead of sailing off into the sunset. -- Kyra Kross

quote of the day

Post by Sally »

A discussion is an exchange of knowledge, an argument is an exchange of ignorance.

I guess that's been said before.
Watch nature, because it’s our greatest teacher, it moves and flows and moves on again. We can never be free until we disengage, so allow life to flow as you find it. The way it is, is the way it is.
