Shopping - GOOD!
I am developing a "sixth sense" about the Goodwill store here. I ran into today for just a few minutes and BINGO! Found a red, cashmine turtle neck sweater (maybe a little small)?? A pair of 100% silk pajama pants, never worn! Then two of the sexiest skirts. One, tight gray, just above the knee and a slit and right next to it a blue, geometric pattern slightly shorter also with a slit and tight. I could hardly wait to try them on. Well, they fit , boy do they fit!!!! These you can only wear "sheer to the waist" pantyhose with them, no slip. They are really pushing my dress code to the limit but I think with a "toned down" top and 2" or 3" heels I can still maintain my "conservatively sexy" dress code! What do we say girls??? When the going gets tough -- the tough go shopping!!

Virginia, have you shopped at the shoe store "Shoe Carnival"?
I was at one in Hampton, and they had some really nice shoes and prices.
They even had a stack of different style boots in the middle of the floor and every pair cost $5.
My wife and I both looked, but couldn't find any over a size 7.5

Don't believe we have a "Shoe Carnival" here in Roanoke, but the Burlington Coat Outlet has some inexpensive shoes. I have got to get away from having only black and white shoes. I do have one pair of gold strappie's iwth a 3" heel that don't look too bad.

For me you cant beat the thrift stores. Your pretty much left alone and if you go there early you have the run of the place. No one seems to give me a second look as i try to find those treasures. And the prices... ! so good! Friendly clerks (mostly women) that are helpfull and understanding. I had one suggest that some I should get some heels with what I was buying (skirt and top) and smiled knowingly when she said that. I of course turned beat red and mumbled something, but it was one of those moments where finally someone knew. I guess i faced my fears that day and lived to talk about it.
Up here (maine) at the place you take your recycleables (paper, bottles, ect) they have clothes that people donate. The clothes are free for the taking and Ive actually found some nice things there also.
As i am learning some little fashion sense, its so nice to be able to do it and still have a bank account thats not empty!

I do a combination of both, what I can't find at thrift stores I will go to a department store to buy.Beauty wrote:Hi there,
Ok. I have a question. Why the thrift shop and not a shop in the mall? Is it because it's a little safer or are the prices just that good?
For years I've heard about them being so popular, but I don't really know why.

For example, I've yet to see body shapers/girdles in thrift stores, so those items I go to a department store to buy.
On the other hand, I found some nice full slips in thrift stores that average around $5-6, vs. new in a department store which average $20.
I don't know about 'safer', I've been to a thrift store at 8 at night and it seemed the same to me when I go at 9 in the morning.

I hate the mall. I loathe it with a passion. Everything about the mall, from the way it's constructed to the way it's lit, drives me bat$#!t.
I love the Value Village, great selection, the prices can't be beat, and nobody gets their business up in your business. Plus it's not the mall.

I shop both location, I am just trying to find the better deal for the money. Like when I was Penneys I bought to types of boats that fit great one costing orginaly 100 and the costing 150 both marked down for clearence to 14 that is what I have to say is savings. It was one of those times I could not make my mind about which one to get so I go both.
